Workshop at Kagoshima University, Japan

Kagoshima University, Japan will held a Workshop: Creating a Global Network of Education and Research for Regional Developement.

The workshop aims at creating a global education and research network designed to better understand and address rural development issues and problems with particular focus on small rural communities and remote islands. Rural development experts/scholars both locally and abroad will be brought together to discuss and share valuable insights on the various issues relevant to the topic.

The program will consist of lectures on the various rural development issues, a field visit at a settlement to experience firsthand a method for community participation as well as field visits to public works projects in Amami Oshima Island. The said projects were financed by the Japanese Government based on Amami Islands Promotion and Development Act. Approaches for assessment and analysis of the remote island policies will be discussed during the visit. We are keen to build an infrastructure to start the regional development program in the university.

The workshop is scheduled on the 24th, 25th and 26th of January 2015. Only the 1st day session is open to those who registered in advance.
