FTUI and Newcastle University Develop Collaboration in the Energy Sector

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) received a collaborative visit from Newcastle University on Monday, 08 May 2023. During this visit, Newcastle University was represented by Ms. Jo Geary Rathbone (Director of ASEAN Strategic Development) and Dr. Stevin Pramana (Lecturer, School of Engineering – Indonesia Lead).

“The agreement reached between FTUI and Newcastle University is to carry out cooperation and collaboration in research and academic fields related to energy. FTUI has a strategic focus on improving the quality of innovation research, community service and high impact and participating in realizing the Net Zero Emission and Renewable Energy programs. Currently, FTUI has a Masters’s program in Systems Engineering and the Institute for Energy Studies,” explained Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU as Dean of FTUI.

Newcastle University itself has a research program that is in line with the energy sector. Dr. Stevin Pramana, as Indonesia Lead-Newcastle University, expressed his hope that Newcastle University and FTUI could work together in research and academic matters. Dr. Ir. Dalhar Susanto, FTUI Cooperation, Venture and Alumni Manager, responded positively and stated that FTUI needed a partner university to run a Double Degree Masters’s program in the energy sector.

From this meeting, FTUI and Newcastle University agreed to send academic staff from the two universities regularly to teach at partner universities and to send their staff to carry out double degree Masters’s program education at FTUI in the energy sector. In addition, they also agreed to provide scholarships for the two institutions in the Double Degree Masters’s program.

This agreement will enable the two universities to support each other and collaborate in improving research and academics in the energy sector, as well as broaden the knowledge and experience of staff and students from both institutions.
