FTUI Students Research Construction Company Performance Trends during the Pandemic Period

The pandemic condition has had an impact on various sectors of the country’s economy, including the construction sector. During the pandemic, the limited space for the movement of the community and workers hurt the productivity of the construction sector. If the pandemic continues, it is estimated that the performance of construction companies will decline.

Andie M. Endrijatno, a master’s program student with Prof. Ir. Isti Surjandari, MT, MA, Ph.D., Professor of the Department of Industrial Engineering FTUI conducted research related to Research on Construction Company Performance Trends during the Pandemic Period. The results of the analysis of the Covid-19 pandemic data in Indonesia, especially the construction sector, were then presented at the 7th North American International Conference which was held in Orlando, USA.

In this competition, participants were asked to provide an analysis of the Covid-19 pandemic data in each country. Andie M. Endrijatno’s research with Prof. Isti Surjandari took the topic “Research on Trends in Construction Company Performance during a Pandemic”.

“The research we conducted on construction companies for a period of 5 (five) years from 2017 to 2021, used the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method. From this research, we found that the pandemic did not have a significant impact on the decline in company performance in the construction sector. This happened because construction companies are still trying to survive and do the best of their ability to meet the implementation targets in the work contracts so that they are completed at the agreed time, “said Andie.

The results of the study show that the performance of state-owned construction companies has decreased slightly due to the pandemic, while private construction companies have been doing quite well in maintaining their performance. The performance of BUMN companies has a higher average performance when compared to private companies.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has had an impact on various sectors of the country’s economy, including the construction sector. This performance calculation can be used as input for the government to develop policy strategies to improve the performance of construction companies. Companies with poor performance must be assisted to improve their performance, which will have an impact on improving the quality of work and the performance of the construction industry,” said the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU responded to Andie’s research.
