XPRIZE Competition

One of the most pressing global development challenges today is the lack of access to clean water for many of the world’s poor. The Water Abundance XPRIZE is being awarded to proposals which focus on harvesting clean water from the air using renewable resources. Specifically, participants are challenged to create a device that extracts a minimum of 2,000 litres of fresh water per day from the atmosphere, using 100 per cent renewable energy, costing no more than two cents per litre. The prize of USD1.5 million will be awarded to the wining team that can achieve the technical challenge. Detailed information about the Water Abundance XPRIZE is available at www.xprize.org.

Expressions of interest from teams keen to tackle the challenge must be submitted by 31 March 2017, with the five top teams announced in January 2018 to further their work against the technical challenge. We expect the prize to be awarded in August 2018.
