On Saturday (11/2) the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) held the Inaugural Lecture and Introduction to the Academic System of the Engineer Professional Program (PPI) Regular Track and Recognition of Past Learning (RPL) Even Semester 2022/2023. The inaugural lecture was attended by the Deputy Dean FTUI Dean of Research and Student Education, Head of the FTUI Interdisciplinary Graduate Program, Head of the PPI Study Program, Mr. Yoga P. Suprapto, and Prof. Yulianto S. Nugroho, Ph.D. as Resource Persons and New Students for 2022/2023 even semester PPI program.

Speech and sharing session by the Head of the Professional Engineering Study Program, Prof. Dr. Ir. Fitri Yuli Zulkifli, S.T., M.Sc., IPU. Prof. Fitri Yuli explained the academic system, the direction of professional engineering education, curriculum, teachers, academic calendar, and regulations in undergoing education in the FTUI PPI program. He also said that the admission of PPI students through Recognition of Past Learning (RPL) is currently the second batch.

“PPI for the RPL pathway is a formal or non-formal education program that uses work experience as the basis for continuing education for equality with certain qualifications. The program that FTUI opens is RPL type A, namely the equivalent of obtaining an Engineer’s professional diploma. The RPL class makes it easier for prospective engineers who have more than five years of experience based on their engineering experience portfolio,” said Prof. Widodo Wahyu Purwanto, Head of the FTUI Interdisciplinary Graduate Program.

Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU delivered his remarks to the new students. “This morning is the beginning and opening for the next series of lectures. It is hoped that this morning ladies and gentlemen can start establishing friendships before lectures and networking with each other. In the future, as alumni of the FTUI engineering professional program, you can help each other from the network during your studies, help each other and also help the alma mater of FTUI.”

The first lecture material was delivered by Mr. Yoga P. Suprapto from the Association of Indonesian Engineers entitled Ecosystems of Indonesian Engineers, Between Dreams and Reality. Mr. Yoga explained that the Ecosystem of Professional Engineers in Indonesia is an important element so that Indonesia can shift from an agricultural country and rely on natural resource extraction, to becoming an industrial country based on technology and services with high-added value or downstream industries.

The second lecture material was delivered by Prof. Yulianto S. Nugroho Ph.D. entitled The Role of Engineers in Improving Public Safety. Prof. Yulianto conveyed in his material, “Professional engineers have a real role in the design, construction, and operational stages of implementing and maintaining various public service structures in various sectors, such as energy, transportation, communications, business and trade, education, health, and other vital sectors. It is a challenge for our engineers how to prevent and reduce public health and safety risks.”
