As part of its ongoing efforts to expand academic and research networks with leading universities in China, the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), continued its visit to Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) on Monday, November 3, 2025. This visit was part of a series of strategic meetings between FTUI and several top Chinese universities, including Tsinghua University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, aimed at strengthening partnerships in technology and higher education.
The meeting at BJTU took place at the university’s main campus and was attended by Prof. Dr. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, Dean of FTUI, and Dr. Andyka Kusuma, Manager for Partnership and International Education at FTUI. From BJTU, the delegation was received by Prof. Liu Xiaofang (Vice Dean of the College of International Education), Prof. Zhang Yong (Head of the Rail Transit Signal System Department, Faculty of Automation and Intelligence), and Ms. Zhang Fang (Program Coordinator, College of International Education).
The visit focused on exploring academic and research collaborations in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Network and Information Security, and Electronic Information Technology. Both institutions also discussed the potential development of student and faculty exchange programs, including a 3+1+1 program scheme covering undergraduate to master’s levels, with a special focus on disciplines related to railway technology.
Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan highlighted that collaboration with BJTU offers great potential to strengthen FTUI’s academic and research capacity, particularly in transportation technology and digitalization.
“BJTU is a leading university in intelligent transportation systems and railway technology. Through this partnership, FTUI can expand its international research network and provide students with opportunities to learn directly from centers of technological excellence in China,” said Prof. Kemas.
Meanwhile, Prof. Liu Xiaofang, Vice Dean of the College of International Education at BJTU, warmly welcomed the proposed collaboration and affirmed BJTU’s commitment to developing a strategic partnership with FTUI.
“Our university is very open to fostering closer cooperation with FTUI, particularly in advancing education and research with an innovation-oriented approach. We believe that academic exchanges between students and faculty will play a key role in building cross-cultural understanding and strengthening the excellence of both institutions,” stated Prof. Liu.
The visit to BJTU marked an important step for FTUI in establishing international collaborations aimed at enhancing academic capacity, promoting innovative research development, and improving the global competitiveness of Indonesian engineering students. Through partnerships with world-class universities, FTUI remains committed to becoming a center of engineering education that is excellent, adaptive, and contributive to sustainable development in Indonesia and the region.
