In his speech, FTUI Dean, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, emphasized the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration in facing Indonesia’s future technological and developmental challenges.

“The theme we have chosen this time, Interdisciplinary Engineering, reflects FTUI’s commitment to innovate and contribute significantly to Indonesia’s development continuously. We believe that through collaboration across disciplines, we can achieve the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045,” said Prof. Heri.

One of the highlights of this anniversary celebration was the launch of the Interdisciplinary Engineering Department. This new department will become a platform for developing technology and innovation involving various engineering fields.

Additionally, this department will integrate various engineering disciplines to create comprehensive solutions for development challenges in Indonesia. The Interdisciplinary Engineering Department will be housed in the InterDisciplinary Engineering (IDE) Building and will work alongside FTUI’s interdisciplinary research centres, collaborating to produce excellent and impactful innovations for Indonesia.

“Establishing the Interdisciplinary Engineering Department is a strategic step by FTUI to meet industry and societal needs for more integrated and innovative solutions. We hope this department can produce highly competitive research and innovations that can make a real contribution to Indonesia’s development,” said Prof. Heri.

Furthermore, the Interdisciplinary Engineering Department currently oversees three postgraduate programs: the Professional Engineer Program (PPI), the Master’s Program in Energy System Engineering (TSE), and the Master’s Program in Urban and Regional Planning (PWK). In the future, three interdisciplinary research institutes will also be managed by this 8th department of FTUI: the Institute for Urban Planning and Smart Cities, the Institute for Energy Transition, and the Institute for Biosystem and Bioengineering.

FTUI has produced various significant interdisciplinary engineering innovations. These range from the COVENT-20 ventilator, first launched to address ventilator shortages in Indonesia during the COVID-19 pandemic, to the conversion of conventional diesel buses into electric buses, the first of its kind. The electric bus conversion was a collaboration between the RCAVe Research Center for Advanced Vehicles, the P2M Department of Mechanical Engineering, and PT. Petrosea. Shortly, FTUI is also preparing to launch a solar-powered electric fishing boat with low operational costs.

These innovations not only demonstrate FTUI’s ability to produce cutting-edge technology but also reflect FTUI’s commitment to environmental sustainability and the development of eco-friendly technology. Over the past two years, FTUI has also been recognized as the best engineering campus in Indonesia based on the THE World University Ranking 2023 and 2024. This achievement was made possible by the collaboration and outstanding performance of the entire FTUI academic community.

“This international recognition is the result of the hard work and dedication of the entire FTUI academic community. We are committed to maintaining and enhancing this achievement through continuous innovation and collaboration,” said Prof. Heri.

He hopes that through this anniversary celebration, the spirit of collaboration and innovation will be further ingrained among the academic community and stakeholders. Thus, FTUI will continue to play a driving role in achieving the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045 through sustainable technology and engineering development.

The anniversary event was held at the IDE Building courtyard, a new FTUI facility. This building also serves as a home for cross-disciplinary engineering research centres and institutes. The event was attended by UI Board of Trustees Secretary, Prof. Dr. Ir. Praswasti PDK Wulan; UI Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, Drg. Nurtami, Ph.D., Sp,OF(K); UI Vice Rector for HR and Assets, Prof. Dr. Ir. Dedi Priadi, DEA; Director & Chief Business Officer of PT Indosat Tbk, Muhammad Buldansyah; and Director of Operations and Marketing of PT Pertamina Training and Consulting, Yudi Somantri.

***

Public Communication Office
Faculty of Engineering Universitas Indonesia

The Faculty of Engineering (FT) at Universitas Indonesia (UI) celebrated its 60th anniversary with the theme “Interdisciplinary Engineering for Indonesia Emas 2045” on Wednesday (17/7).
