The event featured Dr.-Ing. Widiya Jatmiko, M.Sc., a Furnace Engineer from Knauf Insulation, was the sole speaker.

As the world continues to advance into a high-technology era, the demand for materials with exceptional performance increases—glass being one of them. Once limited to windows and bottles, glass now plays a pivotal role in electronics, optics, and renewable energy technologies. Addressing these developments, Dr. Widiya Jatmiko from DTMM FTUI offered new insights through her scientific work titled “Glass Science and Technology ver 4.0.”

In her lecture, Dr. Jatmiko delved into the latest glass science and technology developments, emphasizing their growing complexity and wide-ranging applications. She explained how the characterization and processing of glass have evolved to incorporate digitalization and automation, aligning with the principles of Industry 4.0. Glass is no longer seen merely as a transparent solid, but as a functional material with an amorphous structure that can be engineered for various strategic uses.

Among the intriguing topics discussed were the evolution of glass structures and the mechanisms behind their formation, advanced processing techniques such as quenching and ion exchange, the role of glass in optoelectronic technology and energy storage, and the integration of smart material concepts into the design of future glass products.

Dr. Jatmiko also highlighted the importance of synergy between research, education, and technological development in Indonesia to avoid being left behind by other advanced countries in materials innovation. This guest lecture is expected to serve as a useful reference for students, researchers, and industry professionals in glass-based materials and manufacturing.

“Dr. Widiya Jatmiko’s scientific work exemplifies how research in materials engineering can address the challenges of our time.
