This program, initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, was organized by Universitas Prasetiya Mulya and involved 330 students from 39 universities across Indonesia.

Juan’s academic advisor, Prof. Dr. Ir. Raldi Artono Koestoer, DEA., a Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering FTUI, stated that Indonesia faces significant challenges in the availability of efficient, portable, and widely accessible health monitoring equipment. “MOLITAV emerges as an innovative solution that integrates the latest technology to enable fast and non-invasive health monitoring,” explained Prof. Raldi.

MOLITAV offers several advantages, including rapid and accurate results through the use of advanced technology to deliver vital data in a short time, a portable and compact design for convenient use at any time, and a non-invasive method to ensure maximum user comfort.

“MOLITAV is designed to monitor five key vital signs, including Heart Rate (HR), Oxygen Saturation (SpO2), Body Temperature (TBody), Skin Temperature (Tskin), and Respiratory Rate (RR),” Juan explained. “The device features a microcontroller-based design using ESP-32, which supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, enabling users to monitor their health data in real time through an Android application.”

Development of MOLITAV began in 2018, starting with testing of heart rate, SpO2, and body temperature (2018–2020), followed by the launch of a portable device with four vital signs (2023), mobile application integration and addition of respiratory rate monitoring (2024), clinical trials (2025), and further development to include EEG, ultrasound (USG), glucose (blood sugar), and blood pressure monitoring capabilities (2026–2028).

Dean of FTUI, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., stated, “With its technological advantages, MOLITAV has great potential to be implemented in clinics, hospitals, and even household settings. This innovation supports improved public health in Indonesia and promotes independence in domestic medical device production. MOLITAV is not only a solution to current healthcare challenges but also a strategic step in supporting Indonesia’s vision of developing sustainable health technology.”

The WMK program at Universitas Prasetiya Mulya, titled SIWIRA-INOTEK, aims to nurture future tech-oriented entrepreneurs. Over the course of three months, participants received entrepreneurial training through both offline and online learning. The program concluded with a Demo Day on December 8, 2022, where participants showcased their business prototypes. Out of 33 business ideas presented, MOLITAV was selected as one of the seven best businesses.

***

Public Communications Office
Faculty of Engineering Universitas Indonesia

Juan Karnadi, a Master’s student in the Biomedical Engineering Program at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), class of 2025, has been awarded as one of the “Top 7 Best Businesses” in the 2022 Merdeka Entrepreneurship Program (WMK) through his healthcare innovation, MOLITAV (Monitoring Lima Tanda Vital / Monitoring of Five Vital Signs).
