This visit marked a significant moment to discuss sustainable collaboration opportunities between academia and industry, particularly in human resource development and applied research in engineering and construction.

The PT Jaya Obayashi delegation was represented by Tatsuhiko Miyashita (General Manager of Mechanical & Electrical), Kohei Noma (Director), Maha Pramana Surbakti (President Director), and Mayang Qolbi (Human Resources Chief). From FTUI, the meeting was attended by Dr.-Ing. Ir. Dalhar Susanto, Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration, along with the team from the Career Development Center (CDC) FTUI.

The meeting discussed the continuation of the Work in Japan program, a recruitment initiative designed to provide FTUI graduates with career opportunities at Jaya Obayashi Corporation in Japan. The program, which has been running for the past two years, has been well received by FTUI students, particularly those from the Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Mechanical Engineering programs.

“FTUI consistently builds strategic partnerships with various industries, both nationally and internationally. On this occasion, FTUI is collaborating with PT Jaya Obayashi to host a mini workshop aimed at introducing the company’s profile and presenting the upcoming recruitment program,” said Dr.-Ing. Ir. Dalhar Susanto.

The Work in Japan program is scheduled for deployment in December 2025. With a three-year contract scheme in Japan and a monthly compensation package of IDR 20 million, the program not only offers international work experience but also a long-term career development pathway. Participants will later have the option to continue their careers in Japan or return to Indonesia to work with Jaya Obayashi.

In addition to talent development, FTUI is also opening wider opportunities for collaborative research. During the meeting, the faculty proposed a research collaboration scheme that ranged from prototype development to commercialisation through licensing and joint production with industry partners.

“We see PT Jaya Obayashi as a potential partner, especially in the field of construction. The research scheme we offer involves working together from the initial stages through to the end, ensuring that research outputs do not stop at publications, but truly address industry challenges,” explained Dr. Dalhar.

FTUI Dean, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., also expressed his support for the collaboration. “FTUI is committed to creating real synergy between higher education and industry. Many research projects at FTUI have great potential for further development. However, to bridge the gap toward commercialization, we need strong industrial partners. We warmly welcome collaboration with PT Jaya Obayashi, not only in recruitment but also in joint research and innovation,” he stated.

Through this ongoing collaboration, FTUI hopes to continue strengthening its role as an educational institution that produces excellent graduates and innovations that directly contribute to the construction sector, national development, and global industrial advancement.

***

Public Communications Office

Faculty of Engineering Universitas Indonesia

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), welcomed an official visit from the delegation of PT Jaya Obayashi on Monday (20/05), held in the Professors Meeting Room, FTUI Dean Building.
