Prof. Lee delivered a presentation on Orthopedic Biomechanics titled <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cLocking Head Screw Mechanics for Bone Fracture Fixation and the Development of AI-Based Diagnosis Devices.\u201d<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> The seminar took place on Tuesday (June 17) at the Auditorium, 2nd Floor, IDE Building, FTUI.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Prof. Lee began the seminar by discussing posterior capsular plication simulation. He introduced a simulation device called the Shoulder Tester to explain how the local coordination system functions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He then elaborated on the Double-Lead Screws for Locking Plate Fixation. In this section, Prof. Lee demonstrated how Double-Lead Screws can provide compression between the plate and the bone, resulting in a stronger fixation compared to Single-Lead Screws.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Furthermore, Prof. Lee shared his research aimed at determining the optimal pitch ratio of Double-Lead Screws for humeral head repair. The findings showed that the ideal pitch ratio is 1.25\/0.82.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In the concluding part of the seminar, Prof. Lee presented the <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Artificial Intelligence-based Human Joint Motion Analysis System for Doctor\u2019s Office Space.<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> He emphasized that human motion analysis plays a crucial role in musculoskeletal rehabilitation and assessing treatment effectiveness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cMotion analysis <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">is typically conducted<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> using 3D motion capture equipment, but recently, with the advent of AI technology known as Human Pose Estimation, joint tracking can be performed using standard cameras. Human Pose Estimation can produce more accurate motion analysis results when used with stereo camera systems, although the accuracy varies depending on the angle and distance between the cameras. While some studies have explored these parameters, they remain insufficient,\u201d explained Prof. Lee.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In his research, Prof. Lee and his team successfully determined the optimal configuration of stereo cameras for Human Pose Estimation in a clinical setting. Moreover, they demonstrated that high-performance 3D motion capture is possible using RGB cameras. Prof. Lee also suggested that motion capture research via Human Pose Estimation could be conducted in virtual environments using rendering software such as Mixamo and Blender 3D.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dean of FTUI, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Ph.D.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, stated, \u201cThis seminar provided invaluable insights into research and development in <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">orthopedic<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> biomechanics, as well as the application of artificial intelligence in human motion analysis.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> The material presented by Prof. Yeon Soo Lee opens new perspectives that align with RCBE-IBB FTUI\u2019s research development goals. We look forward to potential collaborations between RCBE-IBB and Prof. Lee\u2019s team to foster innovations in biomedical engineering.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Prof. Yeon Soo Lee is a lifetime member of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers (KSME). In 2019, he served as President of the BioMedical Engineering Division of KSME.
