The program <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">was joined<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> by 16 students from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) under the theme <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cTropical Sustainable and Renewable Energy.\u201d<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Upon completion, the program <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">is recognized<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> as equivalent to 2 credits (2 SKS).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This year\u2019s Short Course featured eight academic sessions covering topics such as <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Biomass Valorization, Sustainable Process and Product Development, Green Hydrogen, Renewable Energy, CCUS, Circular Economy in Extractive Metallurgy, Advanced Polymer Applications in Renewable Energy Technologies, Green Steel: Transforming the Steel Industry Towards Carbon Neutrality, Toward a Circular Future: Sustainable Polymers and Green Innovation,<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> and <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Sustainable Roadway Illumination: Material Considerations for Solar Street Lighting in the Tropics.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The HKUST students also visited four major companies in Indonesia\u2014PT Krakatau Posco, PT Gotion High Tech Indonesia, PT Maggot Indonesia Lestari, and PT Inoac Polytechno Indonesia. These industry visits provided valuable opportunities for students to observe firsthand how sustainable technologies <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">are applied<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> in industrial settings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In addition to the academic and industrial components, participants also learned about Indonesian language and culture through activities at Citra Alam Riverside, such as <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">batik painting<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> and <\/span><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">traditional angklung music workshops<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, as well as a visit to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII). These cultural experiences enriched the students\u2019 cross-cultural understanding and deepened their appreciation of Indonesia\u2019s cultural diversity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., emphasized the importance of this program <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThe International Short Course in Engineering is not merely an academic platform\u2014it is a space to build international networks and valuable experiences for both universities to learn and share insights on sustainable energy. We hope this collaboration will nurture a young generation that is resilient in facing the challenges of sustainable energy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Acting Dean of Students of HKUST, King Lau Chow, added <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThis collaboration provides students with hands-on experience on tropical energy issues as well as cross-cultural understanding, enriching their global perspectives.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Meanwhile, Andyka Kusuma, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Manager of Partnership and International Education at FTUI, stated <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThe success of this program demonstrates that international education should <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">be designed<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> to integrate academics, industry, and culture in a balanced way.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">With the successful implementation of this year\u2019s Short Course, FTUI and HKUST reaffirm their commitment to expanding collaboration in academics, research, and industrial networking to foster innovation and sustainable solutions for global energy challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">***<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Public Communication Office<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This year, the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) once again held the International Short Course in Engineering \u2013 UI Creates, which took place from July 19 to August 17, 2025.
