The University of Indonesia (UI) delegation together with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemdikbudristek) visited Melbourne on 8 – 12 February 2023. The visit was a follow-up to the Partnership in Research Indonesia and Melbourne (PRIME) cooperation framework between the Government of Indonesia and the University of Melbourne which was initiated on March 31, 2021. Meanwhile, UI was present as a representative of the Indonesian research alliance.
PRIME is a research collaboration that aims to increase the ranking of universities in Indonesia at the global level. Previously, a collaborative research team was formed consisting of 6 groups with a total of 67 researchers, divided into the PRIME Health and PRIME Social research fields. The PRIME framework was expanded during this visit by adding the PRIME Engineering and Science cluster.
The UI delegation that attended the visit was led by Prof. Dr. err. nat. Abdul Haris (Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs), with Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng. IPU. (Dean of the Faculty of Engineering). Meanwhile, representatives from the Ministry of Education and Culture are Prof. Ir. Nizam, Ph.D. (Director General of Higher Education), and Dr. Mohammad Sofwan Effendi (Director of HR of the Ministry of Education and Culture).
“We believe that global engagement through research collaboration and academic collaboration has a significant impact on increasing the quality and number of publications and citations, and is effective in making UI recognized by the world scientific community,” said Prof. Harris.
“This visit focuses on exploring research collaboration opportunities under the PRIME Engineering and Science umbrella. In the field of education, the UI Faculty of Engineering currently has international class program collaborations with several leading universities in Australia. In the future, with support from the Ministry of Education and Culture, the collaboration will be further strengthened,” said Prof. Heri Hermansyah.
The purpose of this visit, apart from meeting and discussing with the leaders of FTUI’s partner universities in Australia, we also met students and alumni of the FTUI international double degree program who are currently studying and working in Australia. We are also extending cooperation agreements with several existing partners and exploring the possibility of opening international class programs with new partners in Australia,” said Prof. Harry.
During the five-day trip, UI and DIKTI also took the time to meet and discuss with strategic partners such as Monash University, Deakin University, Swinburne University, and leaders of the Times Higher Education Asia Pacific.
