The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) and the Faculty of Military Engineering, Defense University (FTM UNHAN), have entered into a cooperation agreement in terms of assisting the preparation of accreditation documents for several study programs. As a form of realization of this collaboration, on Tuesday 2 August 2022, the Defense University FTM, held a Workshop on, Preparation of Accreditation Forms for the Defense University FTM Study Program (Workshop on Engineering LAM Accreditation Procedures and Internal Quality Assurance System). The workshop was opened directly by the Dean of the Indonesian Defense University FTM, Prof. Dr. Ir. Muhamad Asvial, M.Eng, at the Auditorium Building, State Defense Campus of the Indonesian Defense University, Sentul.
This workshop presented speakers from FTUI and the Indonesian Engineers Association, namely, the Head of UPMA FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Winarto, M.Sc., Chair of the LAM Engineering Evaluation and Accreditation Committee, FTUI, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ir. Nasruddin, M.Eng., and Member of the Quality Assurance and Research Committee of IABEE and LAM TEKNIK, Prof. Dr. Ir. Rahmat Nurcahyo, M.Eng. Sc.
In his opening remarks for the workshop, the Dean of the Defense University FTM who is also a Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering, FTUI, Prof. Muhamad Asvial said, “The holding of this workshop is a collaboration between the Indonesian Defense University FTM with the UI Engineering accreditation and the Academic Quality Assurance Unit of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia (UPMA FTUI)”.
Also present to give a speech, the Deputy Dean of the Deputy Dean for Education, Research and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc. “The training for the study program at the Defense University’s Military Engineering Faculty is a follow-up to the Indonesian Defense University’s FTUI and FTM cooperation program. This workshop will describe the basic principles and provisions of accreditation by LAM Teknik, the introduction of accreditation form documents and self-evaluation, and an understanding of the need for an Internal Quality Assurance System to support study program accreditation activities.
The first Exposure Session by Prof. Dr. Ir. Winarto, M.Sc., Head of UPMA FTUI on a Brief Overview of the Role of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit, Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia. Through his presentation, he explained that FTUI is one of the largest faculties at the University of Indonesia, with a vision of Excellence and Global Competitiveness.
Three Strategies for FTUI 2022-2026 to deal with VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, ambiguity), namely First, Strengthening Engineering Entrepreneurship (Empowering Engineering Entrepreneurship). Second, Improving the Quality of Innovation Research, Community Service, and High Impact (Impactful Research and Innovation). And the third is the Modernization of Engineering Education with High Impact (Modernization of Engineering Education).
The second session of Exposure Regarding the Technical LAM Accreditation Procedure was delivered by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ir. Nasruddin, M.Eng (Chairman of the LAM Engineering Evaluation and Accreditation Committee, FTUI). In his presentation, Prof. Nasruddin explained that accreditation has an important role to improve the quality of study programs in universities. Study program accreditation can be said to be the spirit of quality assurance in the implementation of higher education, both internally through SPMI and externally through SPME.
The third session of Presentation on the Internal Quality Assurance System was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ir. Rahmat Nurcahyo, M.Eng. Sc (Member of the Quality Assurance and Research Committee of IABEE and LAM TEKNIK). Prof. Rahmat started his presentation with an understanding of quality, where quality standard techniques were first introduced by the military in the UK to achieve superiority in weapons, which were later adopted by the international standardization body (ISO) and introduced to a wide audience and have grown to this day. With food quality assurance, there will be inspection and quality control to maintain and prevent violations.
