FTUI Cooperates with John Cockerill Defense on Defense Technology

On Tuesday (1/3), the Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia (FTUI) received a visit from John Cockerill Defense (JCD), a company engaged in the production of machinery for steel mills, boilers and industrial heat recovery equipment, shunt locomotives, and equipment. military from Liege, Belgium. Currently, JCD’s main product is an exclusive and innovative large-caliber weapon system. The main technology of JCD lies in managing the recoil impact on the vehicle caused by large-caliber weapons when fired. This technology that has been created by JCD allows JCD to build a tank that has a large cannon weighing only 17 tons.

Also present at this meeting were James Caudle (General Manager Asia JCD), Patrick Ledig (Vice President JCD), Prof. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU (Dean of FTUI), Dr.-Ing. Ir. Dalhar Susanto (Cooperation Manager, Venture and FTUI Alumni), Dr.-Ing. Mohammad Adhitya, S.T., M.Sc., Dr. Tomy Abuzairi, Prof. Dr. Ir. Widodo Wahyu Purwanto, DEA., Prof. Sunaryo, and Dr.rer.pol. Romadhani Ardi, S.T., M.T. (Manager of Student Affairs, Research, and Community Service FTUI) and several other FTUI professors and researchers.

“FTUI just held its graduation last Friday. This means that the fulfillment of company resources can be obtained from new FTUI graduates. Today we will discuss with John Cockerill Defense related potential collaborations with FTUI, both in terms of education, research, community, capacity building, and others,” said Prof. Harry.
“Collaborative creation of new science and technology like this (JCD & PT Pindad) certainly has significant and promising benefits for both Belgium and Indonesia. Therefore, JCD appreciates the opportunity to visit and discuss with FTUI,” said James.

The effectiveness and mobility of the tank can increase and make it easier for soldiers to operate the tank. This is very useful for countries that have challenging terrain such as countries in Southeast Asia. JCD has also collaborated with the TNI-AD since the mid-1990s. As of today, the collaboration between JCD and PT Pindad has produced 3 products, namely the Badak tank, the Antasena battleship, and the tiger tank.
