Thanks to New and Renewable Energy-Based Residential Ideas, the FTUI Student Team is Ready to Compete at the 35th PIMNAS Event in 2022

Four students from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) successfully passed the 2022 National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) final selection. The FTUI team initiated the idea of a renewable energy-based residence called the Energy Independent Home. Energy Independent Home is a residential idea for the future that can generate electrical energy independently. In the PIMNAS 2022 event, the team will compete in the Written Futuristic Idea Student Creativity Program (PKM GFT) category.

Ahmad Zufar Ashshiddiqqi (Computer Engineering 2019), Firda Hanna Ismia (Industrial Engineering 2019), Fulky Hariz Zulkarnaen (Computer Engineering 2019), Muhammad Ilham Maulana Sidik (Computer Engineering 2019), and Nur Hanifah Lastianto (Industrial Engineering 2019) compiled the idea of Energy Independent House under the guidance of a Lecturer in the Department of Industrial Engineering (DTI) FTUI, Dr.rer.pol. Romadhani Ardi, S.T., M.T. At PIMNAS 35, the PKM GFT Team will be represented by 4 members because one member has already been selected for the 2022 IISMA Program.

Head of the Energy Independent Home Team, Ahmad Zufar explained the background to the emergence of this futuristic idea, “The use of electrical energy in the household sector in Indonesia ranks first above the industrial, business, and general sectors for the last 5 years. 46% of the electricity consumption of the State Electricity Company (Persero). PLN) is the household sector. Society’s dependence on the use of fossil-powered electricity needs to be a major concern. Considering that reserves of natural resources, such as coal, oil, and natural gas will run out in the next few decades. We feel that there is a need for a shift massive shift towards alternative energy, especially in the household sector.”

Energy Independent Home is a residential house designed to generate electricity from several renewable energy sources such as sunlight, pressure from the footrests on the floor, rainwater, and wind. It is hoped that in the future, this alternative energy source can replace fossil energy-based electricity consumption patterns in residential homes throughout Indonesia.

“Thus, the implementation of this EIH design can contribute to the achievement of several UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) points in realizing the development agenda for the safety of humans and the planet, especially at point number 7 (Clean and Affordable Energy), number 11 (City and Sustainable Settlements), as well as number 13 (Climate Change Handling),” said Nur Hanifah.

In the residential design proposed by the FTUI team, new and renewable energy is generated from several systems, namely solar panels, piezoelectric, water turbines, and also wind turbines. Solar panels produce energy that uses sunlight, piezoelectric uses pressure from a footrest, and water and wind turbines each produce energy from water currents and wind.

“The benefits of this idea are expected to maximize the use of electrical energy from renewable natural resources to realize energy sustainability, create a smart and green city-based area that is environmentally friendly and without air pollution from conventional power plants, reduce the impact and losses felt by the community due to the occurrence of power outages; reducing dependence on household electricity consumption from the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) or the System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI), and supporting the government in efforts to realize SDG goals 7, 11 and 13 to maintain the sustainability of the lives of Indonesian people, ” explained Dr. rer. pol. Romadhani Ardi.
Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU expressed his appreciation and hopes for the Energy-Independent House concept. “This critical idea by the team of FTUI students is expected to be massively realized throughout Indonesia in the future. Long-term thinking like this is proof that FTUI students are excellent and impactful students. It is hoped that they will get the best results at PIMNAS 35 in 2022, to make FT and UI proud.”

Thanks to the idea of housing based on new and renewable energy, Ahmad Zufar and the team, on November 30–December 4, 2022, they will return to compete in the final stage of PIMNAS 35 2022 at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang.
