UI Vice Chancellor Visits Six World Class Campuses in Australia to Strengthen Global Engagement

The Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs at the Universitas Indonesia (UI), Prof. Dr. rer. grout. Abdul Haris, accompanied by the Dean of the UI Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., visited several partner universities in Australia to develop the International Class Program (KI).

The six world-class campuses that will be visited on 25–31 July 2022 are Monash University, the University of Melbourne, the University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, University of New South Wales, and Swinburne University of Technology.

According to Prof. Haris, this visit aims to strengthen global engagement and develop the double-degree program cooperation that exists between UI and several partners in Australia. “Through global partnerships, we are also building UI’s academic reputation internationally,” he said.

During the visit, the UI leadership was welcomed by the Vice President of Monash University, Prof. Abid Khan; Provost and Senior Vice President of the University of Queensland, Prof. Aidan Byrne; Associate Dean Melbourne School of Engineering, Prof. David Schallcross; and Pro Vice-Chancellor of Swinburne University of Technology, Prof. Alan Lau, and his staff.

In addition to meeting the leaders, Prof. Harris and Prof. Heri also visited UI students who were taking joint-degree programs at campuses in Australia and alumni. Students participating in the IP program come from various faculties, such as the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Computer Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, and Faculty of Economics and Business.

While attending the graduation of the FTUI KI program students majoring in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering and Civil Engineering and Architecture at the Queensland University of Technology, Prof. Haris advised students, “You are UI ambassadors on world campuses. Therefore, keep the good name of the alma mater, focus on studying, and improve achievement because on your shoulders there is the dignity of UI and Indonesia.”

Universitas Indonesia International Class (KI UI) is an educational program organized by seven faculties at UI in collaboration with overseas partner universities. The seven faculties are the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Computer Science, and Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.

There are two forms of cooperation in this program, namely single degree, and double degree. In the single degree, students undergo one semester of study abroad in the third year and receive a degree from UI. Meanwhile, in the double degree, students undergo a two-year study program at UI and two years at partner universities abroad so that students will get two degrees at once, both from UI and from partner universities.
