2,000 New FTUI Students Participate in PSAF and MADK FTUI

On Thursday, August 15, 2024, FTUI held the Faculty Academic System Introduction (PSAF) at Balairung UI. This event was designed to introduce the academic system to new students across various programs, including Undergraduate (Regular, Parallel, and International) as well as Postgraduate (Master’s, Doctoral, and Professional). The PSAF participants consisted of 1,583 undergraduate students and 619 postgraduate students.

The PSAF FTUI 2024 event began with various video presentations that provided an overview of the faculty. The videos showcased the FTUI profile, available facilities, the physics laboratory, and the achievements of FTUI students throughout 2023. Additionally, a quiz was presented to give an initial refreshment to the participants. After the video screening, a safety induction video was shown to inform attendees about safety in the Balairung area. The MC then officially opened the event, and the new students sang the national anthem “Indonesia Raya” and the UI anthem “Genderang UI.”

The event continued with a welcome speech from the Acting Dean of FTUI, Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Ph.D., who greeted the new students. This was followed by an introduction to the faculty and department management teams for the 2022-2026 period.

In his speech, Prof. Mahmud welcomed the new FTUI students, saying, “Welcome to the Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia, where you will be shaped into future engineers and leaders. Here, you will face challenges, learn, and grow in an environment full of innovation and integrity. The journey at FTUI is not just about earning a degree, but also about building character, ethics, and contributing to society. FTUI will become a second home where great dreams begin to be realized.”

Following the welcome speech and introductions, the event proceeded with a Discussion featuring prominent figures, moderated by Dr.-Ing. Ir. Dalhar Susanto, Manager of Cooperation, Ventures, and Alumni at the Faculty of Engineering UI. The discussion featured Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Fadel Muhammad Al-Haddar, Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2019-2024 period, as the speaker, with the theme “Can Engineers Become Entrepreneurs?”

This discussion provided insights to new students about the connection between the engineering profession and the world of entrepreneurship. After the discussion session, the event concluded with a Q&A session, where new students could ask questions related to the discussion topic as well as the academic system at FTUI. Students who actively participated in this session were rewarded as a form of appreciation.

After the PSAF event, new undergraduate students were directed to participate in the Campus Life Adaptation Period (MADK), which took place over two days, from August 15–16, 2024. MADK aimed to help new students adapt to the social environment of the campus, develop proactive attitudes, and understand the core competencies needed in university life.

In addition to MADK, there was also a Department Academic System Introduction (PSAD) event aimed at introducing the departmental academic system within the Faculty of Engineering UI. The MADK activities targeted new students to build relationships with their peers within the department, foster solidarity through cooperation with classmates, understand and demonstrate initiative and responsibility in their academic journey, learn and apply their department’s core competencies, and recognize the importance of religious knowledge as a foundation for life and a form of responsibility to God Almighty. The MADK event concluded with activities in collaboration with the FTUI Student Council (BEM FTUI) to celebrate and reflect on the new students’ experiences during MADK.
