In today’s information and knowledge age, quality academic writing is key to disseminating scientific discoveries, contributing to the development of science, and achieving higher education goals. To improve academic writing skills and help students, lecturers, and researchers face the challenges of research and publication, the Master Program in Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (PWK FTUI) held a “Mini Bootcamp for Academic Writing: Workshop for Publication.”
The workshop took place on October 2, 2023, and was located at the PWK Studio Room, i-CELL Building, 2nd Floor. This event is part of FTUI’s efforts to provide better education and training in academic writing, which is an important component in the development of effective science and research.
The Mini Bootcamp was led by a renowned expert in the field of Environmental Planning and Policy, Professor Andrew Flynn from Cardiff University. Professor Andrew is an accomplished thinker in the world of academia and research, and he brought his knowledge to this mini boot camp to mentor the participants who are PWK FTUI students.
The main objective of this Mini Bootcamp is to provide participants with a strong understanding and skills of writing, particularly in the context of academic and scientific publications. In Professor Andrew’s words, “This Mini Bootcamp aims to cover various important aspects of the writing process, from finding research gaps to producing high-quality writing. In addition, we will also explain how to choose the right journal for publication.”
The Dean of FTUI, Professor Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, also gave his full support for this Mini Bootcamp. He said, “This activity is a form of FTUI’s commitment to providing understanding and support to students, lecturers, and researchers in honing their scientific skills to conduct quality scientific writing. By organizing this Mini Bootcamp, we hope to have a positive impact on science and the intellectual development of the FTUI community.”
Through this Mini boot camp, FTUI hopes to increase the scientific contributions of students, lecturers, and researchers within FTUI. This is expected to strengthen FTUI’s role in supporting the development of science, making a greater contribution to the scientific world, and creating research that has a positive impact on the wider community.
Activities such as this Mini Bootcamp reflect FTUI’s passion for continuously improving the quality of education and research provided to students, as well as providing opportunities for them to develop the academic skills necessary for success in the world of research and scientific publications.
