On Friday (10/11) at the Smart Meeting Room of the Dean’s Building of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia (FTUI), professors and alumni of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Abhimanyu Takdir Alamsyah, Dipl.DP., MS, and Idris Hadi Sikumbang, S.T., M.Eng., M.Si., launched a book entitled “Negara Archipelago Indonesia 2045: 100 Years of Integrating Sea and Island as the Nation’s Identity”.
There are not many works in Indonesia that discuss thoughts about nationality through the perspective of architecture. The work of two FTUI alumni titled Negara Archipelago Indonesia 2045 answers this and discusses and sees Indonesia as a unity between land and islands that must be managed in an integrated manner.
“In detail, this book seeks to realise and acknowledge the existence of settlements in Indonesian waters inhabited by Indonesian people as a culture and tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. For example, the Bajau community in Sulawesi, as well as the influence of the Bajau community on Indonesia or the floating market which is now one of the tourist commodities and in some places even artificially created floating market locations. This shows how the activities of Indonesian society as a whole do not only view territorial boundaries based on international agreements but also see them as a manifestation of social and cultural activities,” said Prof Abimanyu.
Idris added, “This book has a vision of Indonesia in the future when Indonesia reaches the year 2045, the hope is that on the centenary of the proclamation of Indonesian independence, Indonesia will be able to become a developed country with the perspective of an archipelago. Indonesia in the future has been described in this work so that this work can be a guide in managing Indonesia and realising its ideals that have been built since 1945.”
The Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, who also gave a speech in this book said, “We appreciate the emergence of this work written by two alumni of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia. I know Professor Abimanyu as a senior lecturer who has devoted himself for decades at the University of Indonesia. He sees the archipelago of Indonesia from a scientific perspective of how important it is to maintain Indonesian-ness, while Idris Sikumbang is a practitioner who is involved in the maritime and shipping world on a daily basis. This work also shows a very neat collaboration in terms of realisation between scientists and practitioners. We look forward to the future of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Indonesia in particular and other campus entities in general in Indonesia. Please enjoy this work.”
The book launch took place at the same time as the inauguration of the Forum Indonesia Arsipelago FTUI and a seminar on the book. Attended by the Director General of Sea Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr Capt. Antoni Arif Priadi, M.Sc., Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., Director of the School of Strategic and Global Universitas Indonesia (SKSG UI), Athor Subroto, S.E., MM, M.Sc., Ph.D., and Chairman of ILUNI UI, Didit A. Ratam. As well as several guests from the lecturer environment at FTUI.
With the launch of this book, both authors hope that this book can be a reference and open various perspectives to support the realisation of the vision of Indonesia Maju 2045, one of which is as a superior archipelago country.
