A delegation from the Faculty of Engineering Universitas Indonesia attended the TUAT COI-NEXT International Workshop held at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT) Koganei Campus, Tokyo, Japan, on Monday (20/11). This International Workshop is one of the activities in the COI-NEXT-TUAT programme funded by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
At the TUAT COI-NEXT International Workshop 2023, FTUI was represented by Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, Dean of FTUI, and Dr. Muhamad Sahlan, Head of FTUI Entrepreneurship and Innovation Unit. The workshop was themed “Carbon Cultivation Innovation Hub Challenging the Limits of Carbon Negativity” with the main objective of utilising the results of carbon cultivation in the form of biomass into sustainable materials.
The Dean of FTUI, on his way to attend this international workshop, said, “It is an honour, since last year we have successfully consortiumed with TUAT through the COI-NEXT International Workshop. Here we can share and discuss various programmes. Of course, we discuss these three things to realise sustainable development goals.”
Dr Sahlan, also said, “Our participation in the COI-NEXT International Workshop 2023 is proof of FTUI’s commitment to contribute to the advancement of science, especially in the field of Carbon Cultivation-based Materials and Fuel Production. This is nothing but a collaboration to produce innovative discoveries and transformative solutions. For this reason, this workshop can be a forum for establishing new relationships and collaborations. In addition, it is expected to be a platform for transformative ideas and an incubator for innovative solutions.”
In the workshop, Prof Heri presented on the issue of “Considerative Biosynthesis of Xylonic Acid and Gluconic Acid from Hydrolyzed Palm Fronds Using Gluconobacter Oxydans in a Batch Fermentation Process”. Meanwhile, Dr Sahlan presented the issue of “Enhancement of Sodium Gluconate in Neutralised Oil Palm Fronds Hydrolyzate Fermentation Broth using Low-Pressure Nanofiltration.”
FTUI’s participation in this international workshop is none other than the fruit of collaboration with Japanese Professors in the activities of the Asian Federation of Biotechnology 2022 and QiR 2023 FTUI. From these two prestigious activities, FTUI has finally officially consorted with TUAT since last year to get this COI-NEXT programme.
TUAT COI-NEXT International Workshop 2023 was attended by various countries, such as Indonesia represented by UI, ITB, and IPB, Thailand represented by Thailand National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Chulalongkorn University, and Kasetsart University, and Japan represented by National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Hirosaki University, and Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology.
