8 International Students Graduate from FTUI Degree Program

For the first time, Universitas Indonesia (UI) held “The 2024 Degree Awarding Ceremony for Universitas Indonesia International Students” on Tuesday (23/7) at the Makara Art Center UI. This pre-graduation event, titled “Unveiling Your Great Dreams,” was a form of appreciation for international students and was attended by 61 students, including 6 undergraduate and 55 master’s students. Eight of these were international students who completed their education at FTUI.

Representing the Dean, the Head of the FTUI International Office, Fadhilah Muslim S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC., stated, “These international students pursued their education at FTUI through various funding schemes, including self-financed and scholarship schemes such as the Developing Country Partnership (KNB) scholarship and the UI Degree Scholarship for International Students (UI GREAT), which is UI’s flagship scholarship program.”

The eight students are:
1. Alfred Kampira Levison, a Master of Mechanical Engineering graduate from Malawi;
2. Tuba Arshad, a Master of Civil Engineering graduate from Pakistan;
3. Mohammad Owais, a Master of Civil Engineering graduate from Pakistan;
4. Ricardina Freitas Da Silva, a Master of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering graduate from Timor Leste;
5. Fidélio Soares De Carvalho, a Master of Electrical Engineering graduate from Timor Leste;
6. Jacinto Cipriano Ximenes Belo, a Master of Electrical Engineering graduate from Timor Leste;
7. Mashhood Zahid, a Master of Electrical Engineering graduate from Pakistan; and
8. Si Eun Kim, an International Class Undergraduate Chemical Engineering graduate from South Korea.

In a separate meeting, FTUI Dean Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., remarked, “Celebrating the achievements of foreign graduates from the Faculty of Engineering UI is a moment filled with pride and inspiration. They have demonstrated remarkable dedication, navigating academic and cultural challenges with courage and determination that are commendable. We are proud of their contributions, which have not only enriched our academic environment but also strengthened international cooperation crucial for the advancement of science and technology. May their success at FTUI provide a strong foundation for a brilliant future and have a positive impact on the global stage.”

At the awarding ceremony, the Head of the UI International Office, Drg. Baiduri Widanarko, M.KKK, Ph.D., noted that the 61 international graduates this year came from 23 countries. “They include students from Zimbabwe (12), Pakistan (10), Timor Leste (8), the United Republic of Tanzania (5), and the Republic of Korea (3). Meanwhile, Nigeria, Malawi, India, Iran, and the Philippines each have 2 graduates, and Gambia, Mexico, Palestine, Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Madagascar, Yemen, Tajikistan, Myanmar, Fiji, Cambodia, and China each have 1 graduate.”

The 2024 Degree Awarding Ceremony for Universitas Indonesia International Students was also attended by 17 representatives from 14 embassies, including Cambodia, Tanzania, Mexico, Nigeria, Kenya, Fiji, Zimbabwe, the Philippines, Iran, the Republic of Korea, Yemen, Timor-Leste, India, and Pakistan. Also present were representatives from the Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia (RI), the Directorate of Institutional Affairs of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology RI; Deans/Vice Deans of Faculties; and Directors and Heads of Units/Offices at UI along with their staff.
