On Wednesday (08/06), the Research Forum of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) again held a Young Scientist Sharing Session. This event presented speakers from Bolu Abant Izzet Baysal University Turkey, namely Assoc. Prof. Dr. Turgay Pekdemir.
Prof. Dr. Turgay Pekdemir delivered a material entitled “Breakthrough in Chemical Engineering”. In his presentation, he said that chemical engineering shapes the future and the life of modern society can run with the help of chemical engineering engineers.
“Through chemical engineering academics, products are created and developed by converting raw materials into plastics, and synthetic fibers are derived from raw materials. The resulting products are then used by the community. Not only that, but chemical engineering engineers also operate systems that change the state of chemistry, biochemistry, or physical substance to create everything from cosmetic necessities to fuels. In addition, chemical engineering engineers also manage resources and protect the environment,” said Prof. Turgay.
Prof. Turgay explained that chemical engineering programs can produce great chemical engineers in the future by keeping a few things in mind. First, students are educated according to a clear vision and mission. Then, the study program needs to ensure the quality of education, research, development, and application. Finally, students are taught to make public contributions as well as the path to perfection by planning and applying knowledge.
In carrying out research and development, chemical engineering engineers work closely with other engineers and partners. Chemical engineering engineers will use science to investigate problems and design solutions for safety, efficiency, and sustainability. A good chemical engineering engineer will emerge from the continuous interconnection between educational activities and policies taken.
Abant Izzet Baysal University was founded on 3 July 1992. The campus is one of the leading universities in Turkey, located in an area surrounded by natural beauty between the two metropolises Istanbul and Ankara. The university which has grown rapidly since having its main campus, namely the Izzet Baysal Campus, is located in Gölköy. The university has 17 faculties, 1 institute, 1 school, 8 vocational schools, and 15 research centers.
