The FTUI Industrial Engineering Department received a visit from PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) on December 6, 2022. Located at the FTUI DTI Manufacturing Systems Laboratory, this visit was carried out in the context of evaluating and monitoring the lean manufacturing laboratory.
This activity is included in the “Link and Match University” program held by PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia. This program is part of the corporate social responsibility program which provides Lean Manufacturing System (LPS) and Toyota Production System (TPS) teaching aids to 10 universities in Indonesia, including the Universitas Indonesia. This activity also aims to share knowledge related to Toyota DNA (TPS) through simulation.
The event started with remarks from the Head of the Industrial Engineering Department, Dr. Komarudin, ST., M.Eng. An explanation of the activities, research activities and benefits of the collaboration with PT TMMIN that had been carried out at the Manufacturing Systems Laboratory was conveyed by the Head of the Manufacturing Systems Laboratory, Prof. Dr. Ir. T Yuri M Zagloel. Prof. Yuri explained the various benefits of Toyota DNA which provide useful knowledge to students in Industrial Engineering science.
In this series of sharing activities, PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia shared knowledge by presenting the background and objectives of the activity. This presentation was then followed by a discussion on laboratory development in the LPS and TPS processes by adopting digitalization and industry 4.0 to be implemented in the learning process in the future. The discussion was continued by demonstrating how the LPS works in the piston and TPS assembly process and exchanged opinions regarding the evaluation of each step of the LPS and TPS simulations.
Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU welcomed this visit, “Collaboration between the world of education and industry is very important to harmonize the knowledge provided on campus and its use in the world of work when students graduate later. It is hoped that this simulation in the FTUI DTI laboratory can show how increased productivity followed by cost savings can be achieved in the LPS and TPS simulation and evaluation processes. Efficiency and effectiveness are expected to occur and be implemented in the system after being comprehensively evaluated at a later date.”
All Manufacturing System Laboratory assistants participated in this activity enthusiastically. Laboratory assistants have a better understanding of the steps and their implementation in the company through this simulation and establish friendship with PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia and the Indonesian Manufacturing System Laboratory.
