Since the advent of 4G technology, video streaming has become one of the most popular services available. This service includes popular platforms such as YouTube, Netflix, and other streaming applications. Video streaming has been accessed by 77% of world internet users, and of that percentage, around 55% enjoy video streaming through mobile or mobile services. But in terms of quality, several factors are believed to determine the success of users in adopting this service. This is why measuring the quality of experience, or the Quality of Experience (QoE), is very important.
The presence of 5G technology provides hope for a much better Quality of Experience (QoE) in utilizing video streaming services. However, apart from quality, many other factors are believed to provide value and influence the user experience of video streaming services in the 5G era.
These factors were discussed by Raden Deiny Mardian Wijayapraja in his dissertation at the Doctoral Program in Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia, entitled “Development of a Quality of Experience (Qoe) Measurement Model for Streaming Video Services in the Application of 5g Technology in Indonesia”. This dissertation was presented at the FTUI Doctoral Promotion Session which was held on Thursday (05/01) at the UI Campus, Depok.
“This research aims to develop a measurement model as well as obtain what factors will affect QoE on 5G by using a conceptual framework that involves measuring the correlation of the influence of 4G technology on 5G. The development of this model is carried out by measuring UX and QoS as elements that form QoE. This was also done considering that there is no specific standard to measure QoE,” said Raden Deiny in his presentation.
The conceptual framework was developed using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) approach, based on real UX and QoS data in Jakarta in 2022. The UX measurement results found that in reality condrealin Jakarta, it has a correlation value of 0.59. This means that the influence of 4G technology on 5G on the user experience of video streaming services in Jakarta is still significant.
“While from QoS measurements it is known that there is a correlation value of 0.27. This means that the influence of 4G technology on 5G technically in Jakarta is not significant. The final results of QoE values with UX and QoS formats can also be mapped to see the position and potential of this QoE measurement. Furthermore, on the factors that make up UX, an analysis is carried out with Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA),” continued Raden Deiny.
From the results of the analysis with EFA for the Jakarta area, it was found that matters related to ease or perspicuity and economic aspects were the dominant factors. EFA also groups the ten factors into three dimensions where the technological dimension is the dominant dimension and has priority in developing 5G technology in Jakarta.
Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU, stated “From this research, we can get the results of identifying important factors that need to be prioritized for handling as a strategic step for the provision of 5G services, especially video streaming services. Also, obtaining a Quality of Experience measurement model for 5G video streaming services with variables specific to location and users.”
