Graduated from UI with GPA of 4, Syahril Aditya Ginanjar Research on Energy Efficiency to Reduce Carbon Emissions

Syahril Aditya Ginanjar is a UI student who graduated last week, graduating with a Summa Cumlaude predicate with a perfect GPA (4) from the Engineer Professional Program, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI). Through research entitled “Increasing Energy Efficiency through Dedieselization of Pump Engine Drivers Sungai Rokan PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional–Dumai with 20 kV Electricity Supply”, Syahril initiated a new driver system to increase energy efficiency. This research shows that the efficiencies that have been successfully carried out are equivalent to a nominal value of IDR 31,941,504,000/year or a total of IDR 766,596,096,000 for 24 years from the planned project life.

The resulting efficiency can reduce carbon emissions in the air as exhaust or residual combustion from diesel engines, which currently use electricity supply with low carbon emissions. If the electricity used comes from renewable energy, no more carbon emissions will be produced. “This step is in line with the 2060 Net Zero Emissions program echoed by the Indonesian government. We hope that this efficiency will lower production costs for the supply of water to the Pertamina Dumai Refinery so that the price of fuel that people buy can be cheaper,” said Syahril, who hopes that the results of this research will have a positive impact on society and Indonesia.

The success of this research is inseparable from the support of the lecturers at the FTUI Professional Engineer Program. According to Syahril, the educational program he took at UI supported his work in engineering in the energy sector. “I took the Engineer Profession at UI because I know that lecturers, education and administration staff, the education system, and facilities at UI have exceptionally good quality. The Engineer Professional Program at UI is also managed very professionally,” said Syahril.

Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU said, “Engineer Profession Course at UI goes through a very strict process. Lecturers and supervisors not only provide knowledge in the form of lecture material but also direct practice. Apart from that, UI also has an extensive network, both with industry, government, other research or educational institutions, business, and the community which will help students to expand their professional network.”

Syahril said, he was undergoing lectures during the Covid-19 pandemic, so he had to implement the health protocols that apply at UI, including attending lectures online. Learning facilities and systems are very supportive, such as the availability of learning applications that can be accessed online, the registration process is strict but user-friendly, making it easy to access and use. “I am proud to be able to study at UI, proud to be UI’s alma mater. I hope that UI will remain the number 1 campus of choice for prospective students at all levels. Keep moving forward for a UI that upholds Veritas, Probitas, and Iustitia!” Syahril said.

Currently, Syahril works as a Project Engineer at PT Pertamina (Persero) with assignments at Sub Holding Refining & Petrochemical – PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional – Unit 2 Dumai. He also serves as Secretary at the Dumai City Branch of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII). In addition to these activities, he also formed a start-up called SCI Renewables which is engaged in new and renewable energy. After studying at UI, in the future, Syahril wants to collaborate with various parties to realize his dream of becoming an energy expert, both as a CEO of a company, as well as a top leader in the workplace.
