ProfCast FTUI Episode 11: Drone

ProfCast FTUI episode 11 is back with a special guest. In this episode, Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering, FTUI, namely Prof. Dr. Eng. Drs. Benyamin Kusumoputro, M.Eng. Hosted by Dr. Ir. Hendri D. S. Budiono, M.Eng., Prof. Benyamin discussed the application of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system to a control system that was implemented as a drone.

Drones are unmanned aircraft with no human control at all. The control system is embedded in a computer network. Drones have several types, they can be fixed-wing aircraft or propellers.

Regarding Drone development, Prof. Benyamin is one of the FTUI Professors who research drones. “The shift from Fasilkom to FTUI has increased my research focus on drones. Since 2009, I have focused on utilizing AI in control systems. It took 5-6 years to find a method for developing AI in control systems and finally, it can be patented,” said Prof. Benyamin.

Drones have very broad functions. However, in its use, it also does not rule out problems occurring. Usually occurs in autonomous control systems. In addition, it is usually the case that AI systems can replace mathematical systems.

Met on a separate occasion, the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU said, “Indonesia with so many islands, consists of 17,508 islands and an ocean area of 3.25 million kilometres. Of course, it is very difficult to protect this republic, if not using technology. One of the technologies that can be used is drones. Drones are very useful for today’s life, especially as the right technology to be used in an archipelagic country like Indonesia.”
