The Best Engineering Campus in Indonesia According to THE WUR and Scimago, FTUI’s 59th Anniversary Gift

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) celebrated its 59th Anniversary with the spirit of “Synergy, innovation, and Achievement”. FTUI emphasised its commitment to creating a strong academic environment that can respond to the challenges of the times with innovative solutions that have a real impact on society. The highlight of the FTUI 59th Anniversary celebration (17/07) was the awarding of awards to FTUI people who excelled and made an impact on society.

The Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU, said that for 59 years, FTUI has been a centre of excellence for engineering education in Indonesia. Innovation continues to be carried out by FTUI to become a faculty that is proactive and always innovative by increasing engineering entrepreneurship, the quality of innovation research, service, and community service, as well as the modernization and internationalisation of high-impact engineering education.

“We can feel this year’s anniversary being different from previous years. In 2023, FTUI won the title of Best Engineering Campus in Indonesia according to THE World University Rankings and Scimago University Rankings. This recognition from two prestigious international ranking bodies has further strengthened FTUI’s position as the best technical higher education institution in this country,” said Prof. Heri in his speech.

The modernization of FTUI’s Digital Education continues to be carried out by increasing the number of smart classrooms to 17 classes. The internationalisation of FTUI’s education was enhanced by the opening of the FTUI International Office and the addition of prestigious university partners at the world level for international education and research collaboration. Not long ago, FTUI succeeded in collaborating with the University of Birmingham, England, to open double- and triple-degree bachelor-master programmes.

FTUI also supports the commitment of the Indonesian government to achieve independence in producing medical devices. Last year, FTUI disbursed 500 million rupiahs in reverse engineering seed funding for 10 health products. Through research and collaboration with industry, FTUI hopes to study and re-engineer existing medical devices. By understanding the technology and designs used, FTUI can produce innovations that suit the needs of the Indonesian people and meet the expected quality and safety standards.

FTUI also pays attention to the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration to solve various problems in society. Three new Research Institutes were inaugurated by FTUI to accommodate various interdisciplinary research and innovations in the fields of energy, biosystems, and bioengineering, as well as regional design and smart cities.

“The achievements that have been obtained in improving the quality of the Higher Education Tridharma implemented by FTUI are solely to have a real and superior impact so that people’s lives are better. All of these achievements are inseparable from the active role of collaborative performance results between elements of lecturers, educational staff, students, and also the role of alumni. FTUI graduates have made significant contributions to industry and society and have achieved recognition at the national and international levels. These achievements are clear evidence of the quality of education and FTUI’s commitment to producing graduates ready to face future challenges,” said Prof. Harry.
