FTUI Welcomes 87 New Students of the Professional Engineer Program for Academic Year 2023/2024

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) held an Inaugural Lecture and Introduction to the Academic System of the Professional Engineer Program (PPI) for the Odd Semester 2023/2024 on Saturday, August 19, 2023. The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Ir. Widodo Wahyu Purwanto, DEA. (Head of the Engineering Interdisciplinary Education and Research Unit), Dr. Fitri Yuli Zulkifli, S.T., M.Sc., IPM (Head of PPI Study Program), as well as two public lecture speakers, namely Ir. Juse Roejanto, M.T., IPM and Prof. Ir. Sutrasno Kartohardjono.

“We would like to welcome 87 new Professional Engineer Program students for the 2023/2024 academic year. This year, FTUI accepted 47 RPL students and 40 regular students. The professional engineering program is a place to gain knowledge for those who want to achieve professional engineering certification. For me, the role of engineers is very crucial for the development of industry, especially manufacturing,” said Prof. Widodo Wahyu Purwanto, Head of the FTUI Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in his opening remarks.

The activity continued with a sharing session by the Head of the PPI Study Program, Prof. Dr. Ir. Fitri Yuli Zulkifli, S.T., M.Sc., IPU. Prof. Fitri Yuli explained about the academic system, the direction of professional engineering education, curriculum, teachers, academic calendar, and regulations in undergoing education in the PPI FTUI program. “Last semester for the first time we held an oath of professional engineers which was attended by 82 participants from the 2018-2022 batch. To date, PPI FTUI has produced 219 graduates. We hope that in the next semester or year, you can become one of the FTUI engineer graduates,” said Prof. Yuli.

The first lecture material was delivered by Ir. Juse Roejanto, M.T., IPM who is the Director of PT Graha Pondasi Semesta and Secretary of PII West Java Region. Juse explained the topic of engineering socialization in general and discussed the material entitled “Reverse Circulation Drilling (RCD) on Bored Pile Work at the Approach Bridge of the Suramadu Bridge”. In his presentation, he introduced the project description, definition, scope of work, work implementation method, and production analysis related to the Suramadu bridge.

The second lecture was delivered by Prof. Ir. Sutrasno Kartohardjono, M.Sc., Ph.D., Professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering FTUI. The topic was “Gas Fuel Production in Natural Gas Processing Refineries”. Prof. Sutrasno explained the various characteristics, specifications and standards of gas fuels, ranging from pipeline gas, CNG, LNG, and LPG, to Condensate.

“The natural gas processing process starts from the reservoir with a separator to separate gas, hydrocarbon liquid, and water. Then it enters the DPC (Dew Point Control) unit which functions to take hydrocarbons so that condensation does not occur in the middle of the road. The processing continues to the dehydration process, hydrocarbon recovery until finally, the final processing adjusts the use of the gas, “said Prof. Sutrasno.

On a separate occasion, the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU said, “This PPI Inaugural Lecture is the first step before taking engineering professional certification, introducing them to the importance of the engineering profession and the knowledge they will learn during this program. Hopefully, these future FTUI engineers can develop their skills and contribute maximally to the development of the industry in the future.”
