To strengthen international cooperation, the Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia (FTUI) received a delegation from the University of Zagreb, Croatia (19/10). The meeting covered a wide range of topics that explored various forms of cooperation.
The five main points of cooperation opportunities in the discussion included international double degree cooperation for master’s and doctoral degrees, student exchange for 1 semester with a total of 30-50 students under the MoU, international education through FTUI’s research master’s pathway, and the provision of special courses from the University of Zagreb tailored to the fields taken by FTUI students. The discussion of educational cooperation then focused more on transport and traffic engineering.
“Some of our lecturers and professors have a research focus in the field of transport. We hope that this visit will be a positive start in building close cooperation between the Faculty of Engineering of Universitas Indonesia and the University of Zagreb, and we hope that this collaboration will strengthen cross-cultural understanding and bring innovation in the field of civil and transportation engineering,” said Ayomi Dita Rarasati, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., Head of the FTUI Civil Engineering Department.
Prof. Tomislav Josip Mlinarić, Vice-Rector for Innovation, Technology Transfer and Cooperation with the Economic Sector at the University of Zagreb, said, “Through this collaboration, we hope to improve the quality of education and research in civil and transport engineering at both institutions. In the future, this collaboration can also open doors for students and staff from both universities to gain international experience that can initiate innovative education in the future.”
On a separate occasion, the Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr Heri Hermansyah, ST, M.Eng, IPU, said, “This meeting is the first step in fostering international educational and academic partnerships, which will certainly enrich the global networks of both universities. The discussions held with renowned universities around the world are proof of FTUI’s enthusiasm to continue expanding international collaboration.”
Besides Prof Tomislav, the Croatian delegation was also attended by H.E. Nebojša Koharović (Croatian Ambassador to Indonesia), Prof Dubravko Majetić (Vice-Rector for Science, Research and Postgraduate Studies), and Assoc. Prof. Dario Babić (Deputy Dean for Science and External Cooperation, Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences). The delegation was received by Ayomi accompanied by Andyka Kusuma, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Secretary of the Department of Civil Engineering), and Fadhilah Muslim S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC (Secretary of the Education Modernisation and Internationalisation Unit).
The University of Zagreb is one of the oldest universities in Europe that is still operating. Established in 1669, the University of Zagreb has 29 faculties, 3 art academies, and 1 central university with more than 70,000 students enrolled. Currently, the University of Zagreb has also joined in educational cooperation with Indonesia through the Erasmus and IISMA programmes.
