FTUI and University of Southampton Explore Opportunities for Cooperation in the Education Sector

The Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia (FTUI) welcomed a delegation from the University of Southampton (UoS), UK, to discuss the potential for international cooperation in the field of Education (07/11). At this meeting, UoS was represented by Donna Hayes as Regional Head of International Recruitment and Partnerships UoS and received by the Head and Secretary of the FTUI Education Modernization and Internationalization Unit, Prof. Dr. Ir. Harinaldi, M.Eng., and Fadhilah Muslim, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC.

The meeting was opened by Prof. Harinaldi, who gave an in-depth overview of the excellent programs at FTUI, especially the Double Degree international program that has been integrated with several partner universities. This Double Degree cooperation has been established for both undergraduate and master’s levels and does not rule out the opportunity to expand to several other European universities, one of which is the University of Southampton.

“UoS has similar study programs with FTUI, namely in the fields of civil engineering, environmental science, chemical engineering (especially in the field of petroleum), electrical engineering, and architecture. UoS itself is one of the top ten universities in civil engineering in the UK. Currently, the University of Southampton also has a campus in one of the ASEAN countries, namely Malaysia, “said Donna, explaining further about the programs owned by UoS.

Furthermore, the discussion between FTUI and UoS focused on the potential for cooperation in the fields of electrical engineering, computer engineering, and mechanical engineering study programs for the 2+2 double-degree undergraduate program. FTUI also explored the possibility of a 1+1 double degree master’s program with funding from LPDP or government scholarships in the fields of civil engineering and mechanical engineering.

Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, ST, M.Eng, IPU, Dean of FTUI, stated, “This meeting is the first step to building stronger educational and academic partnerships internationally. Especially with UoS, which is one of the top 100 universities in the world, FTUI seeks to design innovative programs that provide maximum benefits for academic development in an international multicultural environment.”

Ranked among the top 100 universities in the world, the University of Southampton is a public research university with seven campuses, five in Southampton, one in Winchester, and an international branch in Malaysia. Currently, UoS is home to 14,705 undergraduate students and 7,960 postgraduate students making it the largest university in the South East of England. UoS also has several research centres in several disciplines, including engineering or management science, music, and computer science, as well as research institutes in oceanography and web science.
