FTUI Prepares to Open Two New International Undergraduate Programs

On Wednesday (3/1), the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), held a meeting to discuss the opening of the International Special Class Programs in Environmental Engineering and Computer Engineering. The meeting was chaired by the Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc., and took place at the Senate Meeting Room, Dean’s Office Building.

Prof. Yanuar, in his opening remarks, emphasized that in planning for the opening of these new programs, the relevant parties should not dwell on uncertainties. Instead, they should focus on preparing the proposal to be submitted to the Academic Quality Assurance Unit. “We must be enthusiastic about the opening of these new programs,” said Prof. Yanuar.

Several aspects were discussed during the meeting. Among them was the process of establishing collaborations with FTUI’s partner campuses. Both the Environmental Engineering and Computer Engineering programs are actively seeking collaboration with Monash University. Specifically, the Environmental Engineering program aims to collaborate with the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, offering a 4-year study scheme at FTUI and 1 year at the partner campus for a master’s degree. KTH RIT also proposes a collaboration scheme for a Master’s Double Degree. Meanwhile, the Computer Engineering program is focused on collaborating with Monash University due to its potential programs in Electrical and Computer System Engineering and Software Engineering.

Several considerations were raised during the meeting, including the insufficient number of faculty members and questions about whether faculty members would receive English language training to teach in these international special class programs. Additionally, the responsible party for promoting these new programs was discussed.

Concluding the meeting, Prof. Harinaldi urged the Environmental Engineering and Computer Engineering programs to strive for the best Double Degree collaboration schemes. “The next step is to ensure curriculum mapping with the relevant potential partners,” said Prof. Harinaldi.

In a separate statement, FTUI Dean, Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, expressed, “The opening of two new International Special Class Programs, Environmental Engineering and Computer Engineering, is a bold step that we must face with focus and collective spirit. Let us together make this a remarkable achievement for FTUI in achieving global academic excellence.”

The meeting was attended by the Head of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit, Prof. Dr. Ir. Winarto, M.Sc., the Education Manager, Dr. Nyoman Suwartha, S.T., M.T., M.Agr., the Head of the Education Modernization and Internationalization Unit, Prof. Dr. Ir.
