Create Environmental Security FTUI, UPMA Holds Workshop Related to Prone Falling Trees

On January 31, 2024, the Academic Quality Assurance Unit of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (UPMA FTUI), organized the “Workshop on Inspection & Identification Methods for Prone Falling Trees in the FTUI Environment,” held in Room S 205 Smart Class, Building S, FTUI. The workshop featured Noer Kholis S.Si., the Environmental Management Team of the Technical Implementation Unit for Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment (UPT K3L UI), as a speaker and was attended by the FTUI security unit commander, as well as representatives from the K3L department and I-Cell Building.

The topics covered in this workshop included risk assessment, preventive measures, and handling of prone falling trees. Participants learned how to identify and understand the characteristics of prone falling trees, to create a safe environment at FTUI free from the risk of falling trees.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Winarto, M.Sc., the Head of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit, stated in his address, “Lately, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds has often caused tree disasters. This has become a concern for the faculty, so with this workshop, it is hoped that the FTUI K3L team will have the ability to identify prone falling trees in the FTUI environment, thus helping to minimize the risks and impacts of damage caused by falling trees.”

In the workshop’s final session, to facilitate application, UPT K3L UI invited participants to conduct a direct case study in the field by learning to identify the characteristics of trees in the FTUI environment, based on the prone falling tree identification form distributed to participants.

In a separate statement, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., the Dean of FTUI, gave his response, “Through this workshop, we hope to have K3L conduct regular monitoring to comprehensively and routinely assess the overall condition of trees to detect the risk status. This status will be used as a consideration for decision-making in maintenance to minimize risks, thus creating a safe environment at FTUI free from property damage caused by falling trees.”
