CCIT FTUI Collaborates with i-University, Japan for Student Exchange Program

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), explores a student exchange program collaboration between the Continuing Education Program–Center for Computing and Information Technology (CEP-CCIT) FTUI and the Professional University of Information and Management for Innovation (i-University) in Tokyo, Japan, on Friday (26/1/2024). This collaboration was extensively discussed during the FTUI working visit supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as an effort to enrich Indonesia’s human resources in cybersecurity.

The FTUI delegation was led by Dean Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU., and consisted of the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering (DTE), Dr.Eng. Ir. Arief Udhiarto, S.T., M.T., the Head of the Computer Engineering Study Program, Dr. Ir. Muhammad Salman, and permanent teaching staff in the Computer Engineering Study Program, Dr. Ruki Harwahyu, S.T., M.T., M.Sc. The FTUI delegation was received by Prof. Hisahiro Go Abekawa, Vice-Rector for Global Communication, and Prof. Toshihiro Hirayama, Vice-Rector for ICT.

“In facing global challenges in this digital era, collaboration with i-University Tokyo is a strategic step for FTUI in providing innovative educational opportunities for students. This collaboration is not only a student exchange but also an opportunity to explore holistic experiences in business, ICT, and global communication, taking our students to the next level in contributing to society,” said Prof. Heri regarding this educational collaboration.

Prof. Toshihiro Hirayama expressed i-University’s enthusiasm for the collaboration with FTUI, “i-University is committed to providing a holistic educational experience with a focus on business, ICT, and global communication. Through student exchange and joint initiatives, we believe we can create a learning environment that enriches and supports the development of human resources in the field of cybersecurity, not only in Indonesia but also at the ASEAN regional level.”

Not only discussing the opening of this educational collaboration, Prof. Toshihiro Hirayama also presented some initiatives that i-University has undertaken with the Japan Network Security Association (JNSA). This collaboration is part of JICA’s program for the development of cybersecurity in Asia. FTUI itself has established the Indonesia Cyber Awareness and Resilience Center (IdCARE) as a centre of excellence and initiative at the ASEAN regional level and beyond. To date, IdCARE has assisted in developing cybersecurity human resources both domestically and internationally, including in Timor Leste, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Mongolia, and Bhutan.

i-University is one of the universities in Japan that offers unique learning experiences by prioritizing three pillars: business, ICT, and global communication. Lectures often involve teamwork, innovative projects, guest lectures from practitioners, and internships in businesses or industries in Japan. Currently, i-University has 681 businesses/industries and 1028 visiting professors from various industries. Through this exchange program, CCIT FTUI students can further their education at i-University and broaden their horizons to contribute to society, especially in the fields of ICT and cybersecurity.
