FTUI Hosts the 15th National Seminar of the Energizing Indonesia Forum

On Thursday (25/04), FTUI hosted the 15th national seminar of the Energizing Indonesia Forum (FEI) titled Green Technology: Indonesia’s Role and Position. This public seminar was held in Room K.301, FTUI. The event featured four speakers: Joko Siswanto, Secretary of the Indonesian National Energy Council; Chairani Rachmatullah, President Director of PT PLN Engineering; Toto Nugroho, President Director of PT Indonesian Battery Industry; and Bandung Sahari, Sustainability Executive VP of GAPK.

“The Energizing Indonesia Forum was established ten years ago when UI Chemistry students wanted to contribute. Over time, students from other departments and faculties wanted to join. Therefore, FEI has a diverse human resource background,” said Ir. Mauren Toruan, M.M. the Chairperson of FEI in his opening speech.

Mr. Joko Siswanto, the first speaker, shared his knowledge regarding national energy policies. “There are several urgencies for the revision of Presidential Regulation No. 79 of 2014 concerning the National Energy Policy, including the need for energy policy to be in line with climate change policies, the failure to achieve economic indicator targets, and the completion of the national energy grand design as input for the revision of the National Energy Policy and Plan.”

This green aspect could become a government concern if it has its appeal. Indonesia is rich in energy potential, such as wind, solar, biomass-based bioenergy, and hydro. These energies can be utilized to achieve green energy.

The second speaker, Toto Nugroho, said, “Today, EV demand is increasing and is likely to continue to increase over time. In this case, batteries support us in this transition. We can also reuse depleted battery materials.”

“The fighting spirit and strength of Gen Z need to be enhanced. For women, don’t let yourself be limited by gender. We, as women, are also needed in this industry,” said Chairani in explaining the role of Gen Z and women in the green industry.

Bandung, as the last speaker, said, “Although it’s not easy, we need to continue to push existing industries to transition to green technology. The way to do this is by incorporating green technology to create green spaces.”

FTUI Dean, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., IPU., said, “We are very pleased to be able to contribute to the national seminar organized by FEI. Through this seminar, we can support industries to transition to green technology. Hopefully, the participants who attended can apply green technology and disseminate it to the community.”
