Petpolis: Safe Shampoo for Pets, an Innovative Product by UI Startup

One of the leading tenants from the Universitas Indonesia (UI) Incubate 2023 Batch 2 grant program, PT. Propiglow Hatta Indonesia has launched its first product, Petpolis. Petpolis is an innovative shampoo specifically designed for pets such as cats, dogs, and rabbits. Using propolis extract as the main ingredient, Petpolis offers a natural solution with antifungal and antibacterial properties.

Itchy skin problems in pets are often caused by the fungus Malassezia globosa, which thrives in tropical climates like Indonesia. Pet shampoos on the market usually contain synthetic chemicals that can have long-term adverse effects on pets. Addressing this issue, PT. Propiglow presents Petpolis with natural active ingredients that have proven effective in tackling these problems.

Ahlan Fauzi is an alumnus of the Bioprocess Engineering program in the FTUI class of 2015 and the CEO of PT. Propiglow Hatta Indonesia, stated, “Propolis, a natural compound from bees, has been proven in vitro to have antifungal properties that can alleviate itching issues on pet skin while also maintaining the softness of their fur. By using propolis, we are also empowering Indonesian beekeepers’ economy.” Ahlan added that the product has met feasibility and stability standards, although it is still awaiting BPOM (Indonesian FDA) and Halal certification, so the benefits of Petpolis are currently only available to UI associates and the community.

Petpolis has several advantages, including: containing propolis extract as the main ingredient with proven antifungal and antibacterial properties, maintaining fur softness and preventing shedding, being suitable for all skin types, non-irritating to pet skin, and having excellent product standards and stability. Petpolis is now available online on the official Propiglow website (www.propiglowanimalcare.com) as well as on e-commerce platforms like Shopee and Tokopedia.

Ahlan and his team’s participation in the UI Incubate 2023 program has been a catalyst for them, providing a platform for UI students interested in entrepreneurship. “The UI Incubate program has a clear process from registration, and acceptance, to post-program mentoring. If you already have an accountable and measurable idea along with a solid team, don’t hesitate to apply. The benefits are numerous, from personal development to extensive networking,” said Ahlan. He hopes to secure additional funding to develop Propiglow in line with its vision and mission.

Dean of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU., emphasized the importance of start-up programs like UI Incubate in fostering entrepreneurship among students. “At FTUI, we strongly believe that entrepreneurship and innovation are key to facing future challenges. The UI Incubate program not only provides grant funding but also comprehensive guidance and support. This helps students develop their creative ideas into real businesses that can provide solutions to various societal problems. Through our main strategy, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, we are committed to continuously supporting and encouraging students to innovate and create positive change.”
