Five FTUI Students Selected to Receive Panasonic Scholarship 2024

Five students from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), have been selected to receive the 2024 Panasonic Scholarship, organized by Panasonic GOBEL. The scholarship recipients include both undergraduate and postgraduate students: Muhammad Ghiffari Zaman from Industrial Engineering and Daffi Syarif Tanjung from Environmental Engineering for the undergraduate level, Jefri Dharmesta from Mechanical Engineering for the master’s level, and Herianto and Eka Yuni Astuty from Electrical Engineering for the doctoral level. The scholarship awarding ceremony was held on July 29, 2024, at PT Panasonic Manufacturing Indonesia, East Jakarta.

The Panasonic Scholarship is part of Panasonic GOBEL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, aimed at supporting the education and development of top students in the Asian region. This program was first launched in 1988 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Panasonic Corporation in Japan. Through this program, Panasonic hopes to nurture young generations who can contribute to their countries and strengthen the ties between the scholarship-receiving countries and Japan. In Indonesia, this program has been running for 26 years and has provided scholarships to 186 students.

Appreciating this program, Prof. Heri Hermansyah, ST., M.Eng., Dean of FTUI, stated, “With this scholarship, the recipients are expected to focus on their studies and achieve maximum results. The support from the Panasonic Scholarship is not only in the form of financial assistance but also motivation and encouragement to continue innovating and excelling in their respective fields. It is hoped that this program will continue to support more students in the future and foster friendly relations between Indonesia and Japan.”

In 2024, the Panasonic Scholarship Indonesia once again awarded scholarships to 21 students from various educational levels, including 2 doctoral students, 3 master’s students, 10 undergraduate students, and 6 vocational D3/D4 students from 7 universities and 6 polytechnics in Indonesia. The educational assistance provided is Rp. 21,000,000 per year for undergraduate programs and Rp. 32,000,000 per year for postgraduate programs.

Since its inception, the Panasonic Scholarship has undergone several policy changes. From 1999-2013, the scholarship was awarded to the best undergraduate graduates to continue their postgraduate studies (master’s) in Japan. However, starting in 2014, the scholarship was redirected to support students continuing their education at universities in Indonesia. For the next five years, from 2024-2028, Panasonic is committed to continuing this program by awarding scholarships to 105 students in Indonesia.
