The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) recently hosted a scientific writing training session at the Smart Meeting Room (SMR), Dean’s Building, FTUI. Held on Wednesday (August 21), the training was themed “Mastering a Research: Systematic Literature Review X Bibliometric Analysis.” The event was attended by 60 active undergraduate and graduate students from FTUI.
The event opened with remarks from the Manager of Student Affairs, Research, and Community Service, Dr. rer. pol. Ir. Romadhani Ardi, S.T., M.T. In his opening speech, Romadhani said, “Let us delve into the methodologies of Systematic Literature Review and Bibliometric Analysis presented today. At FTUI, we strive to provide research services to build enthusiasm among students for writing journals.”
The training featured presentations from FTUI lecturers, including Danu Hadi Syaifullah, PhD (Department of Industrial Engineering) and Dr.-Ing. Alfian Ferdiansyah Madsuha, S.T., M.T. (Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering), and was moderated by Dr. Safira Candra Asih (Department of Chemical Engineering).
Danu Hadi explained that Systematic Literature Review (SLR) is the process of identifying and interpreting all available research evidence to provide answers to research questions transparently. The stages of SLR include planning, data collection, analysis, and synthesis.
“Bibliometrics is the statistical analysis of written publications, such as books, articles, and other forms of academic or professional literature. Bibliometrics involves using quantitative methods to measure publication patterns in a particular field, the impact of individual publications, researcher productivity, and the relationships between various works, authors, and topics. Bibliometric analysis can use applications like VOSviewer, which is a tool for creating maps based on network data, typically used to analyze citations, co-authorship, co-occurrence of keywords, and more,” explained Alfian.
Acting Dean of FTUI, Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Ph.D., commented, “This event reflects our ongoing commitment to enhancing research skills among our faculty and students. By focusing on systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis, we aim to equip participants with the essential tools and methodologies needed to conduct high-quality research and publish impactful articles. These skills are crucial for increasing the visibility and credibility of our research outputs in the global academic community. We look forward to the valuable insights and knowledge shared during this training, which will certainly contribute to the growth and excellence of research efforts at FTUI.”
The event concluded with a Q&A session on the training materials and the presentation of souvenirs to the speakers, represented by the moderator, Dr. Safira Candra Asih.
