FTUI Welcomes University of Melbourne Visit to Deepen Collaboration Potential

The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), hosted a visit from the University of Melbourne (UniMelb) on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. The visit aimed to strengthen the relationship between the two institutions and discuss further collaboration opportunities in academic and research fields. The meeting began with an introductory session from both sides, followed by discussions on deepening potential collaborations.

Acting Dean of FTUI, Prof. Mahmud, expressed his hopes that the discussions would strengthen synergy between the two institutions to provide high-quality education and research programs. “We hope this meeting will pave the way for broader cooperation in the future, both with the faculty and directly with relevant departments,” said Prof. Mahmud.

In the same session, Prof. Thas Nirmalathas, the FEIT Interim Dean, expressed his enthusiasm for strengthening academic ties with FTUI. “We see great potential in this collaboration, particularly in the field of engineering. In Indonesia, Universitas Indonesia is recognized as the best institution, and in Australia, the University of Melbourne is also recognized as the top institution. Therefore, I am confident that collaboration between UI and the University of Melbourne will bring significant benefits to both parties in terms of academic and research development,” said Prof. Thas.

Prof. Thas was accompanied by Prof. Jagannath Aryal, Associate Professor in Engineering Infrastructure, and Claire Hooper, Executive Director of the Faculty of Engineering at UniMelb. Also present at the meeting were Munawar Khalil, S.Si., M.Eng.Sc., Ph.D., Director of Research and Development at UI, Dr. Romadhani Ardi, S.T., M.T., Manager of Student Affairs, Research, and Community Service at FTUI, and Fadhilah Muslim, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC., Head of FTUI’s International Office. Several lecturers from various departments, including Architecture, Interdisciplinary Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering, were also present to represent their respective departments.

FTUI and the University of Melbourne have previously collaborated on exchange and fast-track programs, but the curriculum is still under development. The meeting also explored other potential collaborations, including the development of double-degree programs and joint research. After the discussion, the University of Melbourne delegation was invited to tour several laboratories at FTUI to observe the facilities and ongoing research activities within the faculty.
