FTUI and PT Kebun Teknologi Hold Japan Job Fair 2024, Bridging Student Careers with Japanese Companies

On Thursday (12/09), the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), in collaboration with PT Kebun Teknologi Indonesia (KebunTech), organized the Japan Job Fair 2024 for FTUI students and alumni interested in exploring career opportunities with various Japanese companies. Held at the Interdisciplinary Engineering (IDE) Building at FTUI, the event provided a platform for participants to directly connect with Japanese companies.

The event was organized in cooperation with ANC Japan Co. Ltd, PWC Consulting, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT) Japan. In addition to offering direct interview opportunities, Japan Job Fair 2024 also featured presentations from various Japanese companies, explaining job opportunities, work environments, and career challenges and prospects in Japan. The participating companies spanned sectors including automotive, information technology, industrial engineering, and renewable energy.

The Job Fair focused on preparing selected candidates to compete in the Japanese job market. Participants who passed the initial document screening were given the chance to interview several Japanese companies involved in the event. Furthermore, selected participants would receive free training in the Japanese language and work culture for six months after passing the selection process. Uniquely, for active students who are selected, companies will wait until the candidates graduate before they start working.

The event also included a networking session, where participants could discuss career tips, and specific requirements for working in Japan, and gain insights into Japanese work culture, known for its discipline and innovation, directly with company representatives. Participants were also informed about career paths, recruitment processes, and document preparation needed to work abroad.

In a separate interview, the Acting Dean of FTUI, Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Ph.D., stated, “This Japan Job Fair is one of FTUI’s strategic efforts to expand global networks and create more career opportunities for our students and alumni in Japan. As one of the world’s leading centres of technological innovation, Japan is an ideal destination for engineering graduates to develop their potential while contributing to the global industry. We hope this event serves as a bridge for our students to pursue international careers.”

This event is part of the commitment of PT Kebun Teknologi Indonesia (KebunTech), a consultancy firm focusing on education and human resource development in Indonesia, to help Indonesian talent compete in the international job market, particularly in Japan. This aligns with the government’s efforts to reduce unemployment in Indonesia by providing direct access to international companies seeking skilled workers from Indonesia.

The event was also driven by the high demand for skilled workers in various industrial sectors in Japan, which is currently experiencing a labour shortage. As a country with advanced technology and a strong economy, Japan has many companies actively searching for potential candidates from various countries, including Indonesia, which has many graduates with relevant technical backgrounds and skills.
