FTUI Strengthens Collaboration with UC Berkeley in Research and Short Mobility Program

The University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), one of the oldest and top universities in the United States, has once again visited the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), to strengthen international collaboration between the two institutions. This meeting aimed to discuss developments in research collaboration, PhD programs, and short mobility programs for students.

On Friday (18/10), held in the Executive Meeting Room of the FTUI Dean’s Building, FTUI welcomed the UC Berkeley delegation led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, Dean of FTUI; Dr.rer.pol. Ir. Romadhani Ardi, S.T., M.T., Manager of Student Affairs, Research, and Community Service; and Fadhilah Muslim, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., DIC, Head of the International Office. The UC Berkeley delegation was represented by Matthew P. Sherburne, Ph.D., Assistant Dean for International Partnerships; Olivia Kuo, M.A., Senior Director of International Programs; and Sara Valentine, Assistant Director of International Initiatives.

In his welcoming remarks, Prof. Heri Hermansyah, Dean of FTUI, stated, “The collaboration between FTUI and UC Berkeley is not new, as FTUI has long established a collaborative relationship with UC Berkeley. I hope this partnership continues and results in more joint projects in the future, be it in research, academics, or innovation. With a stronger relationship, I hope FTUI and UC Berkeley will continue to provide real solutions for global challenges and enhance the quality of education at both institutions.”

Currently, programs in place between FTUI and UC Berkeley include the pre-doctoral program at UCB and the Visiting Research Young Scholar program. The pre-doctoral program aims to select potential PhD candidates to pursue their PhD at UC Berkeley, while the Visiting Research Young Scholar program is a one-year research collaboration in the fields of Energy, Bioengineering, and Biomedical Engineering with renowned professors from UC Berkeley. This program is fully supported by the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS).

“As a form of support for international research collaboration between FTUI and UC Berkeley, KPPM has initiated research seed grants, whereby recipients will participate as visiting scholars at UC Berkeley for one month. The main goal is to create sustainable research collaboration in engineering. This program is expected not only to produce innovative research with real contributions but also to foster knowledge exchange, expand research networks, and increase FTUI’s visibility on the international stage,” said Dr.rer.pol. Ir. Romadhani Ardi, S.T., M.T., Manager of Student Affairs, Research, and Community Service.
