This meeting served as an opportunity to assess the progress of coursework and academic achievements of BMKG employees pursuing master’s and doctoral programs in the Department of Electrical Engineering at FTUI. Previously, FTUI and BMKG had signed a Collaboration Agreement to enhance BMKG staff competencies and develop their human resource capacities.
The educational collaboration program currently includes eight BMKG employees, consisting of one master’s student and seven doctoral students enrolled in the 2022 and 2023 cohorts. These students are being prepared to become high-quality graduates, contributing to human resource capacity development, performance improvement, and advancements in meteorology, climatology, and geophysics-related science and technology.
Nina Amelia Sasmita, Head of BMKG’s Education Team, expressed her hopes:
“We aim to monitor the learning progress of students, particularly the doctoral students undertaking a Double Degree program at Chiba University. Furthermore, in the upcoming academic year, we plan to enrol three additional BMKG staff members in FTUI programs.”
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ir. Kalamullah Ramli, M.Eng., one of the supervising professors, shared his observations on the learning process of the BMKG collaboration students. According to him, the students need to focus more on their research, as the progress of their studies depends on their concentration and dedication.
“Almost all doctoral students face challenges during the early stages of their studies when they begin or adapt to conducting in-depth research to discover novelty. This is no exception for Mr. Andri. Transitioning from master’s to doctoral-level research requires a leap in understanding, so initial difficulties are quite common,” explained Prof. Ramli.
The event was attended by FTUI representatives, including Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc., Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs; Dr.-Ing. Ir. Dalhar Susanto, Manager of Cooperation, Ventures, and Alumni; Dr. Eng. Arief Udhiarto, S.T., M.T., Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering; and the postgraduate supervisory team from the Department of Electrical Engineering, which includes Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ir. Kalamullah Ramli, M.Eng.; Prof. Dr. Ir. Riri Fitri Sari, M.M., M.Sc.; Dr. Ir. Dodi Sudiana, M.Eng.; Prof. Dr.Eng. Drs. Benyamin Kusumo Putro, M.Eng.; and Prof. Ir. Purnomo Sidi Priambodo, M.Sc., Ph.D.
From BMKG, attendees included Adityawarman, S.Si., MM, Acting Head of the BMKG Human Resource Development Center; Nina Amelia Sasmita, Head of BMKG’s Education Team; Septian Bagus Wibisono, member of BMKG’s Education Team; and BMKG staff currently enrolled as students at FTUI.
