The Universitas Indonesia is proud to announce a remarkable contribution from Petroleum Experts Ltd. (Petex), which has donated academic licenses for its Integrated Production Modelling (IPM) suite to support our institution’s research and education in sustainable energy systems. The total value of the donation is equivalent to an impressive £3,461,051.77 UK Sterling, showcasing Petex’s commitment to advancing academic excellence and energy innovation.
This generous donation comes in response to a proposal submitted by the Energy Systems Engineering Department, led by Mrs. Sheila Tobing, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D. The department emphasized the importance of cutting-edge tools like the IPM suite in conducting research in Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Sequestration (CCUS). With Indonesia’s growing focus on transitioning to sustainable energy, CCUS plays a vital role in reducing carbon emissions, particularly through the utilization of depleted petroleum reservoirs for carbon storage.
The IPM suite will be a pivotal asset for the University’s laboratory, enabling comprehensive simulation and analysis of energy systems. It will particularly support research in CO2 injection and storage, helping researchers develop innovative strategies for Indonesia’s energy transition. This collaboration between the University of Indonesia and Petroleum Experts Ltd. underscores the synergy between academia and industry in tackling pressing global challenges. By equipping researchers and students with state-of-the-art tools, this partnership will empower the next generation of engineers and scientists to drive impactful solutions for Indonesia’s sustainable energy future.
The University extends its heartfelt thanks to Petroleum Experts Ltd. for their generosity and looks forward to utilizing this invaluable resource to contribute meaningfully to the field of energy systems engineering.
