FTUI Receives $6,000 Research Grant from Osaka Gas Foundation

On Thursday (14/11), the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), received a valuable $6,000 research grant from the Osaka Gas Foundation: this year, two selected FTUI lecturers and researchers, Ir. Chairul Hudaya, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., IPM. from the Department of Electrical Engineering, and Prof. Dr. Yudan Whulanza, S.T., M.Sc. from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, were awarded the grant.

The Osaka Gas Research Grant 2024/2025 ceremony was held at FTUI and attended by notable figures, including Dr.rer.pol. Ir. Romadhani Ardi, S.T., M.T., Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Research, and Community Engagement, Prof. Dr. Ir. Akhmad Herman Yuwono, M.Phil.Eng., Deputy Head of the Interdisciplinary Research Unit, Eny Kusrini, S.Si., Ph.D., Department of Chemical Engineering, Ir. Jaka Fajar Fatriansyah, Ph.D., Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Ir. Chairul Hudaya, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., IPM., Department of Electrical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Yudan Whulanza, S.T., M.Sc., Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mr. Tetsuo Setoguchi, Chairman of the Osaka Gas Foundation of International Cultural Exchange (OGFICE), Mr. Koji Kato, Executive Director of OGFICE, and Mr. Kazuo Pontoh, OGFICE Representative in Jakarta.

In his speech, Dr. Romadhani Ardi emphasized the significance of this long-standing partnership, “This collaboration has become a vital foundation for advancing research at FTUI. Osaka Gas’s contributions have made a significant impact on our researchers. We hope this strong relationship continues to grow, creating broader and more meaningful benefits in the future.”

Established in 1992, the Osaka Gas Foundation aims to foster research collaboration between Japan and natural gas-producing countries. The partnership between FTUI and Osaka Gas has lasted over 30 years, providing research grants focusing on global energy and environmental challenges.

“Osaka Gas Foundation is committed to continuously supporting research development at FTUI. We are optimistic that this program will drive academic progress at the university and bring direct benefits to society,” said Mr. Koji Kato during his speech.

The ceremony included a symbolic grant handover to the 2024 recipients, who presented their research topics, Chairul Hudaya: Repurposing AC LED Bulb Waste into Functional Solar-Powered DC LED Bulb and Yudan Whulanza: Development of Composite Polymer Hydrogen Pressure Vessel for Mobility Purpose. Additionally, the event featured presentations from the 2023 grant recipients, Jaka Fajar Fatriansyah: Synthesis and Azo Dye Photodegradation Performance Optimization of Agricultural Waste-Based Mesoporous Silica TiO2/RGO Composite Thin Film to Improve Water Quality and Eny Kusrini: Production of Carbon Nanofibers from Empty Fruit Bunches as Electrode Material for Supercapacitors via Thermal Chemical Vapor Deposition and Electrospinning.

“For over three decades, the Osaka Gas Foundation has been a strategic partner, providing significant support to FTUI. This ongoing collaboration not only reflects our shared commitment to strengthening research capacity but is also expected to yield innovative and sustainable solutions to address various global challenges, especially in the increasingly complex energy and environmental sectors,” said Prof. Dr. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., Dean of FTUI.
