Alibaba Cloud and Universitas Indonesia (UI) have forged a strategic collaboration to strengthen innovation and the development of digital technology by establishing a Skill Center. Officially launched on Thursday (12/5) at the Faculty of Engineering UI, this facility symbolizes the commitment of both institutions to drive digital transformation in education and industry.
Located in the Networking Laboratory (Netlab) at Mochtar Riady Plaza Quantum (MRPQ), Department of Electrical Engineering, FTUI, the Skill Center has cutting-edge technology designed to provide a more practical learning experience. As a collaborative space, the facility offers students and faculty opportunities to develop cloud computing and artificial intelligence expertise, bridging the gap between academic theory and real-world applications.
During the launch event, Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, MSc., Ph.D., Acting Dean of FTUI, expressed his gratitude to Alibaba Cloud for its support, which extends beyond physical facilities to include training programs and diverse learning resources. He emphasized that the Skill Center is expected to act as a catalyst for innovation within the campus environment while preparing students to face the increasingly competitive job market in the digital era.
“Through access to Alibaba Cloud’s expertise and resources, the Skill Center will enhance our curriculum and provide opportunities for cutting-edge research, entrepreneurial initiatives, and academic-industry collaborations. This positions the Faculty of Engineering UI as a leader in Indonesia’s technological advancement while contributing to the nation’s digital transformation agenda,” said Prof. Mahmud Sudibandriyo.
Beyond supporting academic learning, the Skill Center fosters an innovation ecosystem. Students and UI-affiliated startups can access resources and mentorship from industry experts through various activities such as workshops, hackathons, and incubator programs. This gives them a competitive edge in creating technology-driven solutions aligned with current industry needs.
This collaboration demonstrates how partnerships between educational institutions and the private sector can significantly impact the development of human resources.
Equipped with its facilities and programs, the Skill Center is expected to become a hub for digital technology education, innovation, and collaboration that benefits the university community and the broader society. This partnership marks a tangible step toward supporting Indonesia’s vision of accelerating digital transformation for a more inclusive and sustainable future.
