The seminar featured two speakers from FTUI: Dr. Rizal AzisĀ from the Department of Electrical Engineering, who delivered the first session, “Sharing Session on Working in International Research Group,” and Dr. Cindy Rianti PriadiĀ from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, who presented the second session, “How to Win International Grants.” Dr. Faiz Husnayain, also from the Department of Electrical Engineering, moderated the event.
In the first session, Dr. Rizal Azis discussed the differentiation process of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) to produce various cell types using xeno-free and chemically defined media. His research aims to create a universal “One-Go Protocol” platform that is more efficient and reproducible for disease modelling. Dr. Rizal’s research involves collaboration with international teams from prominent laboratories and institutions, including the Biodiscovery Institute at the University of Nottingham, UK. This research represents a significant advancement in translational stem cell biology, offering potential solutions to future medical challenges.
Dr. Cindy Rianti Priadi shared strategies for accessing international grants in the second session. As a recipient of the National Geographic Grant in 2020 (Grant Level 1) and 2023-2025 (Grant Level 2), she emphasized the importance of understanding stakeholder needs, building strong collaborations, and adopting innovative approaches that are globally and locally relevant.
Dr. Cindy’s presentation aimed to provide guidance and new opportunities for participants who have not yet secured international grants, covering topics such as:
- Initiating the grant application process
- Key factors for winning grants
- Methods to manage grants for maximum impact
International grants present significant opportunities to expand research scope and global impact. However, many applicants face challenges due to inadequate strategies, poor communication, or unclear project designs. The seminar aimed to equip students with the knowledge needed to overcome these challenges and leverage international grants to enhance their research impact.
Dr. Cindy highlighted that winning international grants requires thorough preparation, relevant project design, and effective collaboration management. With the right strategies, research teams can access global funding and create significant impacts in their respective fields.
“This seminar is a tangible step by FTUI in encouraging students to think locally but act globally. I hope this activity inspires more FTUI students and researchers to go further, build international collaborations, and create innovations that positively impact society,” said Dr. Romadhani.
