16 Students from UC Berkeley and Nanyang Technological University Join Short Course Program at FTUI

The Faculty of Engineering Universitas Indonesia (FTUI) organized the International Short Course in Engineering program, a collaboration between FTUI, the University of California Berkeley (UCB), and Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Sixteen students from UCB and NTU participated in this program, held over four days from January 8 to January 11, 2025, with the theme “Artificial Intelligence and Entrepreneurship in Engineering.”

During the opening of the Short Course Program, Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, MSc., Ph.D., acting dean of FTUI, stated, “This program is an integral part of FTUI’s commitment to strengthening international networks and supporting global academic mobility. The presence of students from these prestigious universities provides a valuable opportunity to broaden cross-cultural perspectives, share knowledge, and showcase the excellence in education and research we have developed at FTUI.”

The students engaged in various academic activities throughout the program, including a campus and lab tour, educational discussions with FTUI students, and industry visits. The scholarly debate, led by Danu Hadi Syaifullah, ST., M.Sc., a Department of Industrial Engineering lecturer, involved about 18 FTUI students and focused on “Technological Advancements: A Catalyst for Entrepreneurial Disruption.”

The lab tour took place at the Department of Industrial Engineering building, where the students visited several laboratories, including the Manufacturing Systems Lab (SISMAN), the Statistics and Quality Engineering Lab (SQE), the Management Information Systems and Decision Support Lab (MISDS), the Systems Engineering Modeling and Simulation Lab (SEMS), the Ergonomics Center, and the Product Development and Innovation Lab (Prodev).

The UCB and NTU students also participated in industrial visits to PT Paragon Technology and Innovation and IYKRA. PT Paragon is a cosmetics manufacturer, while IYKRA focuses on education and technology. These visits provided students with insights and direct learning experiences about technology and innovation in various industrial sectors in Indonesia.

One of the UCB students, Carlo, shared his experience, “Joining the short course has been an incredible experience. I learned a lot from the outstanding lecturers and had the chance to immerse myself in Indonesia’s unique culture and collaborative spirit. This program greatly enriched my academic and personal perspectives.”
