The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (FTUI), proudly hosted the 12th edition of the national hacking competition, Cyber Jawara. The event occurred at the MRPQ Building, Faculty of Engineering UI, on Saturday, February 8, 2025. As a prestigious annual event, Cyber Jawara brings together the best cybersecurity talents from across Indonesia to compete in a challenging competition.
Cyber Jawara is a national hacking competition, better known as a Capture the Flag (CTF) event, organized by CSIRT.ID, is an independent cybersecurity community in Indonesia. This year, Cyber Jawara was held in collaboration with the Department of Electrical Engineering FTUI, the Directorate of Technology and Information Systems UI, and idCARE.UI. The event also received support from Xirka, Punggawa Siber, and Tim 9 from the Ministry of Defense.
Hundreds of teams from various regions across Indonesia participated in the online qualification rounds. After an intense selection process, 45 top teams advanced to the offline final round held at the Faculty of Engineering UI. The finalists were divided into three categories: CSIRT category, student category, and general category. Each category was designed to identify and nurture cybersecurity talents from different backgrounds — from high school students, university students, and general professionals to Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) representatives from institutions and government agencies.
In the CSIRT category, CSIRT-ITS – from ITS Surabaya claimed first place with a total score of 1445 points. Perisai CSIRT from Bandung secured second place with 840 points, followed by Pegawai Negeri Supir from the Ministry of Defense in third place with 560 points. In the student category, CTF Beyond Journey’s End from Mimi School Surabaya emerged as the champion with the highest score of 2510 points. Shellsphere from SMA Negeri 1 Sukoharjo came in second with 1540 points, while Shellroot from SMKN 7 Semarang secured third place with 1510 points. For the general category, a team from Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) took first place with 1810 points. A team from Universitas Indonesia claimed second place with 1410 points, and SNI Tabibito from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) placed third with 1340 points.
FTUI’s role as the host reflects the institution’s strong commitment to supporting the development of cybersecurity talents in Indonesia. Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, M.Eng., IPU., Dean of FTUI, expressed his pride in being part of the national effort to strengthen Indonesia’s cybersecurity ecosystem through this prestigious competition.
“Cyber Jawara is not just a skills competition; it is also a platform for the younger generation to gain a holistic understanding of the importance of cybersecurity. By involving a wide range of stakeholders — from academia, communities, and industries to the government — we believe Indonesia’s cybersecurity talent pool will continue to grow and become increasingly competitive on the global stage,” said Prof. Heri.
As an annual event running for the past 12 consecutive years, Cyber Jawara has consistently served as a barometer for developing cybersecurity talent in Indonesia. Through this competition, it is hoped that innovations will emerge to address the increasingly complex challenges of digital security in the future. With the full support of FTUI and various other stakeholders, this year’s Cyber Jawara serves as a strategic momentum to strengthen synergy in building a resilient and robust national cybersecurity system.
