On Friday (07/02), Huayou Indonesia, in collaboration with the Career Development Center of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia (CDC FTUI), once again opened opportunities for students and alumni interested in pursuing a Master’s degree in Metallurgy and Materials through a scholarship program at Northeastern University, China. This program results from collaboration between Huayou Indonesia Nickel Industry Group, Northeastern University, with support from the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Republic of Indonesia and the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP).
In his opening remarks, Dr.-Ing. Ir. Dalhar Susanto, Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration of FTUI, emphasized the importance of this opportunity for students and alumni. “This afternoon, we will receive information about an inspiring program. FTUI regularly sends students to study at Northeastern University, China. For students and alumni, this is a great opportunity to obtain scholarships, gain overseas study experience, and secure employment in the global industry,” said Dr. Dalhar.
The event, held at the Smart Meeting Room, FTUI Dean’s Building, featured two speakers from Huayou Indonesia Nickel Industry Group: Stefanny Lie, HR Project Supervisor, and Justin Terry, HR Recruitment. In the first session, Stefanny Lie presented the company profile of Huayou Indonesia, which is part of Huayou Cobalt, originating from Zhejiang, China. Established in 2002, the company operates in the renewable energy industry, primarily focusing on producing nickel and cobalt raw materials for electric vehicle batteries. Huayou Indonesia has several strategic projects in Indonesia, including the Huayue Nickel Cobalt Project, Huafei Nickel Cobalt Project, Huake Nickel Indonesia Project, Kolaka Nickel Indonesia (KNI), and Indonesia Pomalaa Industry Park.
Meanwhile, Justin Terry explained the structure of the Master’s scholarship program being offered. This program runs for three years: one year of coursework, one year of research, and one year of internship at Huayou’s headquarters in China. In addition to free tuition, scholarship recipients also receive dormitory accommodation, health insurance, living allowances, and a job guarantee at Huayou Indonesia with a minimum two-year service bond after graduation. The scholarship accepts a minimum of 20 participants each year.
The Dean of FTUI, Prof. Kemas Ridwan Kurniawan, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., welcomed this program and appreciated the collaboration with Huayou Indonesia. “This scholarship program is not just about obtaining a quality education but also opens the door for our students and alumni to engage directly in the global industry. With academic experience at Northeastern University and internship opportunities at a multinational company, graduates of this program will have high competitiveness in the international arena,” he stated.
With this program, FTUI reaffirms its commitment to facilitating students’ and alumni’s international development while contributing to Indonesia’s rapidly growing renewable energy industry.
