“The current motto of FTUI is Victorious, Empowered, and Cultured. ‘Victorious’ can mean excelling, and we strive to strengthen our excellence nationally and globally. The ‘Empowered’ aspect will be enhanced through entrepreneurship. Meanwhile, ‘Cultured’ relates to people, especially the FTUI community,” explained the Dean of FTUI, opening the Dean Engages with the Department of Mechanical Engineering event.
The Dean Engages with the Department of Mechanical Engineering event was held on the 3rd floor of the MRC Building on Friday (March 14). The purpose of this event was to serve as a dialogue platform for the faculty leadership—represented by the Dean and the two Vice Deans—to present the prepared programs and to listen to aspirations, suggestions, input, and advice from the department regarding aspects that could be accommodated in future programs.
During this event, the Dean of FTUI was accompanied by the two Vice Deans of FTUI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Yanuar, M.Eng., M.Sc., and Dr.-Ing. Ir. Dalhar Susanto. Also in attendance were the Heads of Units and Managers, including Prof. Dr. Ir. Harinaldi, M.Eng., Prof. Dr. Ir. Widodo Wahyu Purwanto, DEA., Dr. Imam Jauhari Maknun, S.T., M.T., M.Sc., Tikka Anggraeni, S.Sos., M.Si., CPR., Dr.-Ing. Ir. Ova Candra Dewi, S.T., M.Sc., GP, IPU., Prof. Dr. Ir. Akhmad Herman Yuwono, M.Phil.Eng, and Dr. Miktha Farid Alkadri, S.Ars., M.Ars.
In his presentation, Prof. Kemas highlighted several initiatives already implemented. The first is parking regulation, emphasizing that parking is not a right for students but for lecturers. Therefore, students are encouraged to use the public transportation Universitas Indonesia provides. The second is the smoking ban, which has long been enforced but continues to see violations. Moreover, designated smoking zones are currently located in premium areas, such as the boulevard near the canteen. Prof. Kemas said these smoking zones will be reassessed for better placement.
Additionally, Prof. Kemas addressed mental health issues. Currently, a co-working space is being developed in the Engineering Center. Prof. Kemas hopes that the presence of such positive spaces will help students feel more comfortable and happier.
The event continued with a religious sermon by Prof. Dr. Ir. Gandjar Kiswanto, M.Eng., who spoke about i’tikaf in mosques during the last ten days of Ramadan. As the Maghrib call to prayer sounded, attendees broke their fast together and performed the Maghrib prayer in the congregation. The event concluded with a communal dinner and a group photo session.
